I think you should make them aware of your interests now. You are in the 10th grade, and it would be beneficial to you if you earned at least a 2 year college degree before joining any branch of the service. I admire your desire to serve our country, but be smart about it! A lot can change in the next 2 years -- let your parents make suggestions about your military career!
I wish you well!

At your age you have NO idea of the risks. In the mean time join your high school ROTC program (if your school has one) and get an idea of what the military is about. Begin talking with a recruiter at the start of your senior year - that is also about the time I'd start talking about it with your parents. Is college an option for you? If it is skip the military - the Marines are minimum 4 years - that a long time to put your life on hold while you dodge bullets and shrapnel (yeah even girls have to worry about that).

It's probably best to go gradually. Buy some Marines t-shirts, or clothing and maybe get a couple Marines posters for your bedroom walls. By the time your old enough, if you still want to, they'll be pretty well prepared for your decision.

If you're confident about your decision then tell them, but when make sure you have your reason what you plan to accomplish while in the Marine Corps as someone who is a Hospital Corpman who has been stationed with Marines . you're right there are risk , but there are great rewards SEMPER FI HOOORAH!!!!

THAT IS A DECISION THAT IS YOURS, BUT DON'T YOU THINK IT WOULD BE BEST TO TALK TO YOUR PARENTS AND LET THEM BE A PART OF THE DECISION RATHER THAN DROP THIS ON THEM AT THE LAST MOMENT, DEFINATELY TALK TO THEM AND TELL THEM ALL YOUR REASONS FOR WANTING TO JOIN

I would wait until senior year. Hopefully the war in Iraq will be over and they will be less anxious over it.
