Only if you get really, really, really stoned.

I am surprised by all the cookie cutter answers you have received so far.
Most drugs and more importantly there active chemicals such as Tetrahydrocanibinol ( THC ) do nothing but trigger your body , usually the brain, to release there own chemicals. These chemicals that are used to regulate and facilitate the natural function of the brain and nervous system are then released in abnormal doses into the bloodstream , can and do change the way a person thinks. You might call it seeing though different eyes. Because everyone is different, drugs both legal and Illegal can effect them in different ways.
As far as Opening Your Mind , that's a matter of opinion and interpretation.

Hallucinogenics do... like mushrooms, acid or salvia (the latter is legal). It can give you what's best described as a spiritual experience and there are some surprising findings to suggest that all religions started with hallucinogenic drugs.
They will strip away your cognitive limits and you will see yourself for what you really are, you will be able to delve fully into your subconscious. It's really beneficial towards self-discovery and changing your outlook on the world.
Indeed it's similar to the experiences attained by meditation and enlightenment. They once gave some tibeten monks some acid for an experiment and they had no effect on the monks, it was the same kind of thing they could perceive normally through their heightened senses.

It has been known to happen. But I think the risks in MOST cases outweigh that arguable advantage.
Case in point: One night I smoked a little. Then I went home and watched an episode of Thirty Something. It was the episode where the redhead had a younger boyfriend and she found a shoe and she was going around asking everyone if it was theirs.
Well, after watching this episode when I was high it finally clicked - CINDERELLA! It was a cinderalla story. I didn't pick up on that the first time I saw it.
The flip side to this is - so what? Was that a life-changing epiphany? lol
Oh, and once on acid I made the HUGE discovery that my tongue is the same color as my lips. Same flip side to this story.

I've only taken drugs once, and it did open my mind and allow me to see things through different eyes...it also gave me confidence to do and say things that I never normally would. At the end of the day, you can't live your life on drugs...so the best case scenario is that you do it rarely to give yourself this free spirited feeling once in a while.

Some amazing discoveries have been made while scientists were "seeing things through different eyes." Thank you, booze and drugs, for enabling Watson and Crick to envision the double-helix!

The Shamans around the World perfected the art of hallucinogenic, or mind bending drugs, over 35,000 Years Ago. Cave painting, Rock art, all depict their dreams, from half human, half beast creatures, from visions of space to the after-life and other Worlds. They are drawn in many places across the Globe wherever mankind first began to think. Spirituality is all about what early humans saw when they first began to record these images. Its something the human psyche has begun to lose recently. Its why we are losing our way today.

They only make you THINK you can. I used to smoke a lot of pot back in the day. And although I could see things differently when I was high, I realize certain phylosophical things sound really stupid coming from a stoned person's mouth. I found that I can see things just the same when sober and I sound a lot smarter talking about them.

Not in some outrageously spiritual and cosmic way. You see things differently but not for any good and practical use. Deities don't actually come to you. The music video for safety dance has no hidden messages from alien beings.

No. What they do is provide a chemical warping of your thoughts. Your mind is not opened and the eyes are the same. That said, the effects can be arguably useful. Too much of it and the chemical warped mindset starts to conflict with the normal mindset, which can and does sometimes cause schizophrenia or multiple personality disorder.
