You don't get the monotheist God as her because monotheism comes from a patriarchal culture where women were possessions like one's camels and sheep, and these men created a religion in their own image where men were petty, jealous, capricious, megalomaniacal, demanded to be treated like gods and had the power of life and death over their families and tribes as they did over their goats.

Many other cultures more focused on agriculture than on breeding livestock (where a single male is essential among dozens of females and is prized) had lots of goddesses and saw fertility as a female aspect more mysterious and divine than potency as a male aspect.

It's described as male mostly because men (men who don't think too highly of women considering the dearth of good women in the Bible) wrote it.

The logic behind a god that is male or female has always been comical to me quite simply because of the very issue that people are constantly bringing up when we have the discussion of gay sexual orientation: genitalia.

Think about it, their are several distinct signifiers of sexual identity that one can choose but the main one most people would use is our genitals. It's the source of most of the anger and the source of most of the infighting.

If man was supposed to have been created in this beings' identity and genitals is one of the things that make us different from women, does this mean that this god has a penis? And why would it need one?

It's our physical attributes that make us either male or female, so for all of those who feel as if this being does not have a sexual identity, how do you explain the "made in his own image" line?

Men wrote its so men get to choose.

Aslaamulikum
(peace be upon to you)

I would like to say very good question.
I would also like to say I agree with you on the part of gender.
Yes, god aka Allah {STW} has no gender, like we humans do. Also, God is not a Man, but in the Qu'ran, he calls himself huwa, but stil that doesn't mean we say he is a man or a woman. It is a sign of respect, would you call your elders or respected it ??? No, well just like that, it is only for respect.
Also in the Qu'ran it clearly states he is one, the alone and all powerfull. He is unique, nothing is like him. He is not a man or woman, He has no mother or father, He has no beganning and has no end. What ever we can imagine, Allah{STW} has other than that, simply, reason, what ever we can think about how he looks and etc. that is when Man is creating god. And we know that it is God that had created man, soo why go to the extreams to create things we have no right to and can not.

here is a good quote I herd in a song, I think everyone should pay attention to:

"either your a slave to what manmade, or your a slave to what
mademan!"

salaamulikum
(peace be upon you)

I am LDS (Mormon) and I can share with you what we believe about our Heavenly Father, God. We also believe we have a Heavenly Mother but that God is very protective of Her so we do not know much about Her...

God the Father is the Supreme Being in whom we believe and whom we worship. He is the ultimate Creator, Ruler, and Preserver of all things. He is perfect, has all power, and knows all things. He "has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's" (D&C 130:22).
LDS.org

We do not believe He is just a "man" but believe He is a perfected, exalted being who was once a man, as we are, and now has a body of flesh and bone as we will after the resurrection...not everyone will be exalted though, but everyone will have a resurrected body of flesh and bone.
We know this through modern revelation from the prophets...

Scriptural:

We addressed GOD as HE on the very fundamental basis that JESUS CHRIST [His only Begotten Son] called HIM the FATHER in HEAVEN.

Jesus Christ mentioned during his ministry that whoever believes in him and have already believed in the Father ; and whoever have seen him, have already seen the Father.

Language of Origin:

Most Languages on "God" are in Masculine gender" as a refelection of a fundamental structure of a culture or civilization.
Latin : Deus [in Masculine Gender]
Greek: Theos [in Masculine Gender]

Historical & Societal:

Whether all of us would agree or not, MAN was considered the perfection of all creatures. Earliest civilizations [Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, etc] would attest to this structure. It was not meant to degrade women but was implemented on the basis of their understanding that "man" as a figure is strong, powerful, ruler and defender. The issue on sexism or patriarchial domination was not an issue during those times, it was a law, a rule that has to be followed. Thus we should be aware and sensitive not forced this historical realities to fit our modern thoughts and frames.

Man was made after the image of God, so you are asking the question in reverse. God is not a man, but He did come to us as a man, the man Jesus Christ (who is both God and God come in the flesh). Man was made with the ability to naturally reproduce. The key is the word "naturally". Nature itself was created by God the Creator.

We are not told exactly why God created us, but we do know that He created us after His own image, for His glory, and that He is meek, holy, loving, just, merciful and truth. God is the source and giver of life, so He gave these attributes to man, but in the natural form.

God is always termed as he for enlightenment is normally meant for men. Why? Why can't woman gain enlightenment as easily as men?

In woman the bondage of attachment has been so strongly inbuilt... to cut the shackles of attachment (aka Moha in Hinduism) is just next to impossible. For continuing the progeny... for taking care of children... this bondage of attachment keeps woman away from gaining enlightenment and finally salvation.

In the history of mankind only two women gained enlightenment till date. They are Gargi the famous philosopher in whose memory Gargi College stands in New Delhi, India. The other was Maitreyi, the wife of famous sage Jnanavalakya in whose memory also Maitreyi College in New Delhi, India was dedicated.

Comparatively many men (not in thousands but millions) gained enlightenment since the dawn of mankind.

Every woman on planet Earth represents mother earth. Man on the other hand represents God Almighty. Both are complementary to each other for in absence of one... the other cannot exist.

It is within the powers of every woman that one can gain enlightenment and finally salvation... to cut across the shackles of attachment is the biggest question? The path is tough... yet available. God Almighty was never biased with woman. More on Attachment - http://www.godrealized.org/Attachment.html

God, as a humanized figure, usually taking the form of a man, has often appeared as a character in various works of fiction such as movies, books, and television shows. Though depictions vary, God is usually portrayed as wise, old age, with a patient and calm personality. In cartoons God is usually depicted as a caricature of Michelangelo's classic painting.
