Why not?

I am not looking to step in front of a bus to proof I am an unmoveable object. I don't play with fire to see if I get burned. Fear is a good thing if it keeps you from making a fool out of yourself and helps you to focus on what is important in life, television....

Of course not!

And how many people who answer the same way actually DO allow that to happen?

Of course we all do from time to time, but I refuse to bow down to my fears as a rule. I had that conversation with myself just the other day:

Scared Me: "What if I crash and die? What if he crashes and dies? What if someone blows through that stop sign and takes him out?"

Resolute Me: "Are you seriously considering giving up something you love soooo much (bikes) just because you might die from it? Or have an accident? Why don't I just stay in the house all day and night only emerging to work? Don't be afraid to live, dammit!"

The constant harping on fear when I was a christian is what finally drove me to find someother belief system. I could no longer respect a religion that is so afraid and ignorant all the time. I am now a pagan (Wiccan).

I do not think that fear should dicate our beliefs. We shouldnt believe something just because we are fearful of what might happen if we dont. The bible does say to "Fear the Lord.." I believe that this is referring to actually fearing his power, fearing what he is capable of - but overall God is a God full of compassion, love, and grace and is not a God to be feared.

Fear is the opposite of God. God is Love.

But you have the ability to choose any beliefs you please, even those that lead you astray.

Personally, I believe any belief system that teaches Love, Unity, Forgiveness and Tolerance are in line with the true nature of God.

Any that teach fear, punishment, judgment, intolerance, and separation are leading you astray.

It seems that most people who respond to a presentation of the Christian Gospel that focuses on the threat of eternity in hell indeed do base their faith/religion on fear. Too often, they do not respond to God's grace and love in order to simply draw closer to that grace and love, but to avoid the fires of hell. This sort of fear driven response also leads to a living out of faith that invokes fear in others in order to achieve the same results of conversion. Quite frankly, I believe it is all un-Biblical, manipulative, and unfounded. There is no room for fear where love, grace and faith coincide. NO ONE needs to fear the wrath of God, because God's very nature is that of one who seeks and pursues out of unconditional love and unimaginable grace. I recommend to anyone the book, "If Grace is True." Be prepared. If you choose to read it, it may change your life! Peace.

I have resolved to not live my life in fear. Its not always easy, but I do make an effort. Not believing in heaven nor hell really helps. :-)

No, but can we actually prevent it? It's going to be part of our belief somewhere, even if not the main part.

No, but that's how it usually works. We believe in one thing because we are afraid of the alternative.

No.

I am not a Christian out of fear, but love.

Peace!
