When I was a cashier I would always hand them the receipt, that way people don't need to fish it out to put it in their purse/pocket/wallet, and also so they can't say I never gave them the receipt.

I always preferred my receipt in the bag, I think. I remember when they used to always put it in the bag and I don't remember having a problem with it. You are correct; now they hand you everything. I am assuming they are being trained that way because they all seem to do it.
I guess my real answer is, I would like my receipts that I need to keep in my hand and the receipts I don't care about in the bag. I certainly would not expect a clerk to read my mind though so I take it the way they want to give it.

Difficult. I don't like having everything handed over in one bundle (which is usually credit card plus receipt or coins, bills and receipt) because I keep them in separate places in my purse. On the other hand I don't like the bill in the sack in case I forget it and it gets thrown away when it should be filed. (Aren't I a difficult customer?). So what I'd really prefer is for the various bits to be handed over one at a time ... but I do realise that this would be asking far too much from a busy sales clerk and wouldn't dream of losing any sleep over it. However, you did ask ...

Nowadays, in the technological era of debit cards, a lot of people are paying with the ease of the "swipe". This means that many people do not even get change from the clerk. For me, when I pay with my debit card, I prefer the receipt in my hand. That way, I put it directly in my wallet and I will not forget to make the deduction from my checking account later because the receipt is staring me in the face whan I open my wallet. But if I pay with cash, I prefer the receipt go in the bag because I usually do not need the info from it and if it gets thrown out, then who really cares.

I always re-count my change if the cashier doesn't count it back out to me, but as far as the receipt, I prefer to have it in my hand. If I'm buying clothes or something that may have to be returned, I can immediately put the receipt in my wallet, where it will be safe and I can find it again. The grocery receipt I like in my hand so I can scan over it and make sure that I was charged correctly before I leave the store.

I prefer the receipt in the sack - because as you said you go through the sack anyway to pull out your purchased items. I too do not like when they hand you everything together - all the while trying to hurry up and wait on the next customer so you don't even have time to properly put your money in your wallet.

Prefer to have it in my hand so I can place it directly in my wallet. I use the receipts to keep track of debits and credit card usage. I have discovered that if they are put in the bag then they are morely to get lost or thrown away with the bag which can be troublesome if you need to make an exchange or a return.

I don't mind where the receipt goes... If it's in the hand, I give it a quick read then put it in the bag anyway... If it's in the bag I leave it there till I get home...
What annoys me is when you get notes and coins thrown at you at the same time... I think most people have seperate compartments in purses/wallets for notes and coins and if you're holding your wallet in one hand and you get everything all at once, it makes it harder to seperate it all... I know... Very pedantic there, but it's one of my pet peeves!

I usually like to get my receipt in my hand because on the way out the door I usually check it to make sure the price range up correctly, especially if it was on sale and/or if I used a coupon.
