Yes. I can appreciate that some people can't speak or don't like to, but a simple smile or nod of the head out of basic courtesy does just fine.
When people forget to simply acknowledge the fact that the door simply didn't magically open in their presence, and ignore me holding it open, I shout, "You're welcome!" after them. I think it's fair that they can suffer a touch of humility for their slight.

Unfortunately this happens all the time. I don't mind that so much but what I really don't like is if someone is in front of you and won't even wait for you to grab the door. They let it shut in your face.

Those people should all burn in heck!

Sure.
And then there was the time the guy next to me at the grocery check-out dropped a twenty dollar bill without noticing.
I picked it up, told him he had dropped the money, and handed it to him. He grabbed it frantically, and never even said thank-you.
Oh well, that's life.

yes, but why are you doing it then if you expect a thank you, common courtesy is the best way to be but what if you were opening a door for someone who couldnt speak?

Yes, many times. But I didn't expect a thank you everytime I open a door for some one. I offer it as a courtesy and don't expect to be repaid.

Lots of times. Even have had a few women get mad at me for it. That doesn't matter at all, I keep doing it. Courtesy is something you should show without expecting anything in return.

Yes I have and I will continue to do so, for those few rude and social rejects. I will not let them keep me from being a polite person.

Yes, I have. Many times and I'm a girl. It doesn't matter though, I was doing what I thought was right.

Of course. Let the door slam in their face and they'll complain about it.
