It is a country scene with trees either side, sheep in fields in the background and a little boy laying down to drink from a pool.

Is it signed? Look up the painters name.
If it's not signed you'll have to get someone who's familiar with artists to tell you who did it.

Unfortunately, I cannot find this picture for you. However, I have an idea. If the focus is more of the landscape and the little boy is not the focus of the picture, the title might be the place instead. So try looking at the paintings of landscape artists like Constable, Corot, etc and look for that boy because I can't find him as the subject of a painting. Good luck!

This is a famous John Constable painting. I think it may be Dedham Mill. You can look it up on all the JC sites of which there will be hundreds.

Is there a University or Liberal Arts college in your town?

You can go to the college library, or the fine arts library (if they have a separate fine arts library) and speak with one of the reference librarians -- especially one who knows paintings. He/she might recognize the painting, but he/she can certainly point you in the right direction to look through catalogues of paintings to find out more about it.
