I'm having some people over to watch a French language movie and want to serve hors d'oeuvres that reflect the French theme.

I already thought of mini quiches but do you have any other ideas please?

pain au chocolat. which is baguette(french bread) spread with chocolate. A fondue pot, you could do cheeses or chocolate fondue. Beverages associated with french culture, like wine,or if you arent drinking alcohol, perrier or orangina soda.
If you wanted to americanize it you could do french bread pizza cut into little pieces. Enjoy your party.

Cucumber Sandwiches on Pumpernickel
Makes 20

Here's a classic that you will find to be an easy appetizer and a darned good one, too.

1 package whipped cream cheese
1 package Italian salad dressing mix
Cucumber for slicing
1 package pumpernickel bread, party sandwich size

Combine cream cheese and salad dressing mix. Spread small amount of mixture on each slice of bread. Slice cucumber and place one slice on each cream cheese bread slice.

The French love cheese and cured meats and olives. Don't kill yourself. The simplest items can be quite elegant in their presentation.

canapes? crusty loaf of fresh bread with a platter of cheese and grapes? Look up foodnetwork.com and they can certainly give you hints and pointers...sometimes even download whole episodes of food shows to help make your party special.
