I have a 4 year old female Yorkshire terrier whom we occasionally breed to bring in a little extra cash. She is currently in heat, there a mutts everywhere outside my home, and I currently have no desire to mate her, especially with an undesired suiter. These dogs have been causing alot of problems lately such as chasing my cats, tearing into my garbage, and loitering in my front lawn. My question is, how do I keep the strays away from my home without having to get my dog fixed. Is there some sort of spray I can by to deter them from my home? I would start picking them off with a .22 but aside from the fact that thats mean, I don't want to get in trouble with the law. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

To the person who compared dog breeding to child prostitution. Wtf? Breeding purebred species of dogs has been around for centuries and is an extremely profitable business to many people. Although forcing pregnancy upon any animal may seem unethical to some, it is a way of life for many more. Most dogs that are not bred in kennels are well taken care of and are many times seen as one of the family. Being in college, every little bit of extra cash makes a difference for me. I love my dog very much as she gives me companionship and yes as evil as it may sound a little extra cash from time to time. It disgusts me that you would even think about comparing dog breeding to the prostitution of a child and I am insulted that you have questioned my abilities as a dog owner. If you have a problem with the breeding of purebred animals mabey you should take it up with PETA, but your trying to deface a billion dollar buissnes, and while your at it you might as well go and shut down Wal-mart.

I hate to tell you, those sprays don't work. If you don't plan to fix her, the only thing you can do is walk her yourself when she has to go outside, and can your animal warden for the strays. But you will always keep getting males comeing near by as long as she still goes into heat.

Good luck.

I have to say, breeding your dog to make money is pretty disgusting. Would you prostitute a child of yours? Hopefully not, but I'm not sure.

You're risking your dogs health to 'bring in a little extra cash'. Not nice. The more often you breed her, the closer you bring her to developing pyometra one day (potentially fatal uterine infection).

The answer is to spay your dog - and get the dog warden to pick up the strays. I'm quite sure you won't like what you've just read, but I'm not actually trying to offend, just looking out for the health of a dog.

Most area now are least law area which means the owners of the other dogs is suppose to keep the dogs on their property. Advised the owners if you know who they are to keep their dog out of your yard if that don't work call the dog catcher, because the owner has a responsibility to their dogs

Keep your dog inside, and call the dog catcher on the strays in the front yard.

Good luck. If you don't have time for this, the best thing to do is to spay your female.
