It wasn't all fun and I was glad to get out of it. I got my bell rung during pugil sticks. I was not good at it at all. The guy that I was against took pity on me and lightened up a bit to make it appear to the drill Sgt's I was putting up a good fight whereas I was woozy still from the other guys' first hit.

When you are actually in BCT in the Army all you can think about is how bad it sucks, but mere weeks later all you can remember was the fun things and the absolutely hilarious occurences. I know it is very different for different MOS's (jobs) But Infantry BCT was hell! But, it is funny what you remember. Even the parts that sucked are great memories now. It gives everyone dozens of stories to tell. Pugil sticks were, okay. Firing the AT-4 was AWESOME!!!!!!!! and holy crap loud!

There is no such things as "Ex-Infantry". Once an 11 bang, bang always and 11 bang, bang.

Hooah!!!

It was never about fun, but yes there were some times that I had a good time in boot camp, fun is all in how you look at it, it was hard with a lot of blood sweat and tears but I would not trade anything now for the experience I had then.

I went thru NRTC Orlando in 1985... it was easy, and there WERE some enjoyable and humorous times.

Our Companies Laundry Petty Officer getting caught stealing knickers from a female-company... God he was a geek.

Our Redneck Company Commanders giving a "hit" on inspection to a young filippino recruit for his shave (kid couldn't grow a whisker if he TRIED)... and then getting caught by the Division Officer and being relieved of duty.

Marching on the Grinder in the wonderful thunder storms of a Florida Spring... and running for cover when the lightning alarm went off.

Our "Picnic and Sports"even near "Pass and Review" (graduation) with our Sister-Company.

The REAL fun for me started after graduation when I went to Pensacola for Aircrew Candidate School and then Rescue Swimmer School...

It was fun sometimes but mostly it was boring as hell.

It's not like you get to shoot up a buch a sh!t at the rifle range either. You are under tight contols and a tight leash, you don't even get to fire your weapon on full automatic, there are no MILES gear excercises and you are constantly standing in line and waiting.

Absolutely. Just because something is a challenge and leaves you exhausted does not mean that it cannot have its enjoyable moments. I really enjoyed the firing range and becoming familiarized with various weapons. Even KP was a nice change of pace, learned the difference between edible and inedible garbage!

Basic training is a mind game, actually it is what you want it to be, what I mean by that is, if you are a person who can follow instructions and do and what you are told to do then you will have no problems, it also depends on where you do basic training at. I enjoyed basic training it was fun and challenging, I would love to do basic training over again

Boot camp/Basic isn't meant to be a vacation and no I never had fun even one moment. It is to instill discipline, comraderie, and knowledge to keep you butt from going home in a box. You have to trust that the person next to you is as well trained as you are and you don't get that by going to summer camp.

We just had rifle range, but that was it. It wasn't real fun, but we did have fun times on base lib and stuff.
