No it isnt, it is its own country called The Republic of Ireland (Eire). Its a bit confusing cos the U.K. is to be seen as 1 country even tho it is made up of different countries (Wales, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands) that is why its called ´the United Kingdom´. Southern Ireland is not part of this, they are their own country. Hope this helps (-:

Southern Ireland

I am an American, and I know that the only part of that island that is part of the UK is Northern Ireland, but I can't speak for others. I think, honestly, that a lot of the confusion comes from the fact that they are countries where English is spoken. From my experience, a lot of people are also confused about Scotland, thinking it's off floating alone somewhere else, and they think there should be another island somewhere for Wales. When you try to explain the real geography to them, they get confused. I am just a little mystified that people in the actual UK don't know this stuff :)

No, not since1921. Also, it's called the Republic of Ireland officially, not southern Ireland, southern Ireland would imply the southern counties, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny. And also, over here, we don't say the Republic of Ireland, it's just Ireland unless you're talking about the football (soccer) team.

No its a republic (since 1949). Also there is no such thing as "southern ireland". A lot of people are getting it wrong, Ireland is not called "Eire". That's only what clueless Americans call us! Eire was the Free State, from 1921, but that has gone since we have become a republic. Some people can get quite touchy on the subject, so be careful where you say that!!!

There is no such country as 'Southern Ireland' so no, it's not a part of the UK.
If you are talking about Ireland, also known as the Republic of Ireland, it too, is not part of the UK.

France or Spain are not part of the UK. Neither is Sweden.

There is a small place called Northern Ireland which 'is' part of the UK.

Southern Ireland refers to the southernmost parts of the island of Ireland like Cork, Waterford, Kerry. No they are not part of the UK. Neither is the Republic of Ireland.

No No No
The 26 counties are Irish and some would argue that the 32 counties are Irish but the 6 counties making up Northern Ireland are under British rule

Southern Ireland as you call it, we call it the Republic of Ireland, is an independent country, and absolutely not part of the British Isles either. Maps are being changed now to clear up this British error. We are not called Eire either, that is the Irish word for Ireland and we do not use it unless we are speaking our national language.

No! Southern Ireland is officially known as the Republic of Ireland and is a seperate nation from the UK. If you haven't visited it before, I would highly recommend it. And no I am not Irish!
