In most of the country, not at all for owning a gun. In fact, gun ownership is a RIGHT in The United States, and slowly, but surely that RIGHT is being recognized in more and more jurisdictions that had imposed restrictions.

It depends on where you live. Where I live I can legally carry a gun openly and without any permit or license so long as I'm at least 18 years of age. This is called freedom!
I can carry one in my vehicle but there are caveat's there and I do have a permit to carry concealed which cost me $10 to get. My permit is currently recognized in 21 other states.
However if you are a convicted felon, are using or are intending to use the gun in a crime, or are carrying it concealed in any state except for Vermont without a concealed carry permit you will most likely be fined as a misdemeanor. But there are some states where the punishment is much steeper and in Washington DC you could be doing jail time.
Look to www.packing.org to find a link to your state and a summary of the gun laws as well as a link to your state's official web site that will describe the law in detail

Depends what you have where you are and what you are doing with it. If you simply have it because your dad took it off a dead German and you didn't know it was there then the filth will take it and destroy it and make lots of unfriendly arrogant statements and that will be the end of it. If you wave one around a bank then you are likely looking at more than 10 years. Depends on what country, your dad's Luger wouldn't raise any eyebrows in Vermont but Thames Valley Police would have a cow and you'd be lucky if they didn't shoot you out of fear.
0-20 years. Unless you are doing something bad with it you are unlikely to get locked up for long.
Even in California, if I carry my 45 without a concealed carry permit I'm likely to get off with a severe talking to on the first occasion. I don't intend to find out though.

You wont get locked up for having a fire arm. Not if you are a law abiding citizen, of legal age and you have obtained your firearms legally through a FFL dealer. That is how I got all of mine.

well if you live in the us and go by the laws you wont go to jail it a American right to own firearms. now in large cities they pass local laws that make it extremely hard to own a gun or pass laws that make it illegal to own a hand gun you have to do some research and see what the law allows in your area in KY where i live i got my conceal carry so no matter what local law is pass in what city i still can carry because my license is issued by the state which over rules local laws

... please put this in context, if you have a carry permit and you have one and you get pulled over, nada, not Even a fine, if you have one illegally, it can vary from fines to jail, please state the context and legality of the situation (legality meaning permit wise, have or do not)
