Hon, I'm not a guy, but I think I can anwser your question...I've been through what you are experiencing, myself.
Guys cheat because they're insecure. They may actually love a woman whom they know will always be there for them to forgive their "mistakes"; she's the one who is their rock, the one who's understanding and nurturing. They'll return to this woman over and over again regardless of thier escapades.
The trick is, to NOT be one of these women. REAL men are secure in their sexuality and don't need to prove it by bedding every woman who shows an interest in them. (The fact that these men are often heavy drinkers and/or drug users---with the resulting loss of inhibition that accompanies this---doesn't help either.)
Please save yourself any more future heartache, Hon, and dump this loser if you haven't already. Be strong; I know what you're going through, and it's not an easy thing. Make yourself available to one of those guys who does NOT need to indulge in this infantile behavior.

There are many possibilities. I believe that the underlying reason men are able to go through with it whereas a woman might stop herself is men look at sex as a physical act. Any port in a storm so to speak. His lust can blind him to the big picture.

Women may be initially attracted to a man's looks but in the long run, she needs security and a man that can provide this is able to find many women that might out class him. Women are also often attracted to a man that is in a relationship. Remember, for every man that cheats, there is often a woman that cheats also.

Been married 13 yrs, never cheated.

But sometimes the temptation is there, someone new and exciting showing an interest in you, that makes you feel good.

BTW, women cheat more, and are much more sneaky about it. That has been stated by PIs and confirmed by women in the know.

There are men and women out there that you can't trust or love unless you want to play the fool.

I have never been in the position of feeling like I needed to cheat to get the sex I wanted. But if I had to guess I would say that SOME men cannot make a choice to stay faithful. They think that sex is sex and to hell with it. There are men out there that think that sex is like a burp or a fart in as much as it is a natural thing for MEN to need! I think real men have more back bone and respect for the women who treat them well. Likewise I think that some women in some households create a situation where their men cheat. Naggin, no sex, crazy households suck.

It sounds like you have just discovered this in your current relationship, but not every guy cheats on their girlfriend / wife etcetera, as guys cheat on girls, the same is true for women, and can be put down to a number of things - personality and boredom being the most evident in most relationships.

"Guys," in general, don't cheat any more than "Gals" cheat.

I've never cheated, but I have dated three women who were already married (2 of them were separated) (and in fact I am married to one of them now).

So aside from being a gross generality, it is because the first relationship has changed in some way. It has often been said that women fall in love with the man who will be and men fall in love with the woman who is.

Women tend to shift priorities if their man doesn't change to fit their ideal, and men fall out of love if the woman shifts from the ideal he saw in her when they got together.

If there have been any dramatic changes in your life or his then you might want to carefully examine that change and look for ways that it might have affected your relationship.

If he is cheating on you it may not be your fault but THE WAY HE IS PERCEIVING you. For example, a miscarriage will change a man's perspective about his mate. Even though the miscarriage isn't her fault (or his) and even though it leaves your lives relatively unchanged from most perspectives (obviously emotionally there are changes). As a man ages, he changes the way he perceives things as well.

There is no limit on the number of people you can love. Do you love your grandparents differently because there are 4 of them? Do you love your children differently of you have more than 1? Love is what it is.

That being said, men (and women) can be monogamous and still love other people. They just have to have a line in their brain that says "I love you and go home with you" and "I love you but you are off limits". Ask him which one you are. If he can't tell, then his line is broken and you will have to get him to redraw it or get out.

Don't look for one answer that will soothe your sadness of being cheated on. Decide for yourself whether you can salvage anything from the relationship and move forward or whether you want to quit and move on.

Work from there.

For the record, I have never cheated....yes, I can say that matter-of-factly!.....in the 6 relationships I have been in, I never cheated on any of them. I have been cheated on several times, hence 6 relationships, not one.

but men cheat for all kinds of reasons.....same as women, and according to me Sociology & Psychology classes, in the last 15-20 years, the women have been in the lead when it comes to cheating.

If it happened to you, I feel sorry for you, especially if you have never cheated on anyone before.

Many guys feel physical attraction is an over powering force. They just can't control themselves, But remember , not all guys cheat, many of us have physical attraction and lust put into perspective.

Strangely enough the guys who cheat do it for the same reason some women cheat.

Excitement, bored with g/f or wife, they just meet someone else.

Sometimes we cheat because we just like to know that we still have game and can still get with girls.

Sometimes we cheat because we just want to experience someone new.

And sometimes we cheat just because we like sex and think we'll get away with it.
