he is 12 weeks and for some reason over the last few days his ear just stays up....!!!

He is a cairn terrier crossed with border collie!

Depends on the breed! If he's a mixed breed, his ears could be up, down, tipped or one of each, depending on his parents. Puppies' ears do all sorts of things until they have finished teething but if it's erect now, chances are it will stay like that.
Since Cairn Terriers have erect ears & Borders should be either erect or semi-erect, it's not surprising his ears are on the up!

Good sign of alertness. Some puppies ears are too soft at first to be held up, but over time they become better. It's funny when it happens on one side before the other, but he should even out.

You need to say what breed it is... obviously, a Lab shouldn't be able to hold it's ear up and open.

Yes it is very normal, I had a german shepard that did that till he was 1 & 1/2 yrs old, I took it as personality. Enjoy it.

Yeah, my daushunds ears where always insde out and quiet frankly it is just cute, no need to worry.

I like to stay up too - to watch the Tonight Show etc...oh u mean up as in folded - oopsies
