All depends on how shy we are talking about. If he's just a little shy around women, then he may try to talk to you a lot, but just be unable to ask you out. Shy guys play the dating game more like girls actually, you might find yourself bumping into him more often which might seem like coincidence, but isn't actually.
Just think of something lowkey that you'll be doing soon, and say you'd love for him to come along. Its not an obvious date proposal, but if he's interested he'll probably get the message.

When shy guys like you they probably come off as being real nice. Some other signs that they show are them not knowing what to say and stuttering alot.

honestly, they act different; some will tell you others only wish they could(I fall under this one). most of the time they just start acting weard.

they will show that they care... flirt with u or pass some sweet compliments without maintaining eye contact..
