I have written to Dryer's and they have responded with the typical, increased costs have caused us to reduce the amount we put in our containers. Usually companies just charge more for their products because of increased production costs. Dryer's has both increased the cost of their ice cream and reduced the amount of product in their containers. Wow, can you imagine the profits they gained doing this. Look at the actual weight in what used to be a pound of coffee can. This reduction of contents trick is not knew. Cereal manufacturers are also on the bandwagon. Charging us more and giving us less...it's the American way.

The USDA requires products labeled ice cream have not more than 50% overrun. When ice cream is made air is churned into it. Have you ever noticed that when ice cream melts it loses alto of it's volume. that's because the air is released. So basically the ice ream companies can legally double the volume of their ice cream by adding weightless oxygen to fill a container sold by a volume amount.

Oh, if you think that's bad, you should see the laundry detergent! Some of the manufacturer's are using semi-translucent bottles now and you can see the wildly varying levesl in each bottle!

As far as ice cream, I only buy Haagen Dazs or Ben & Jerry's pints.
