On Yahoo and other websites where they mention their Personals, they seem to suggest that single people are available for romance.
Don't lots of single people like being single?

no they are seen as available because people who are not single are obviously not available

It depends on the individual and their own personal reasons. Some are content with being alone, others possibly just don't really know how to express themselves as "availible".

I'm single and I like being by myself sometimes..... but it does get lonely times when there is no one around.

So there's not a real definate answer other than it depends on the person(s)' individual feelings.

Being single doesn't mean one is 'available'
Some are single because they are recuperating after a bad relationship and are not in the least bit 'available' for any relationship.
Some are single because they simply want to be single and alone.
It is now left to individuals to term the word 'available'

that's just the way it is people who are looking etc just automatically assume that your available which technically you are but they forget that just because your available doesn't mean your looking
also its not just single people that get that i clearly state that I'm in a long term relationship with kids and i still get lots of guys trying it on and alot of them are not available either
just got to put up with it and keeping telling them to piss off
try putting happily single not looking might deter a little

You have a point. Something to consider is the definition of "available." All it means is to be able to be used, or obtained, at someones disposal.
I don't think there is any link to "romance" as such.
Having said that, maybe they are hoping to imply that they are actually available for alot more than just simply romance?
What do you think?

It is not a matter of what they like. It is human nature to be loved....Single is not in itself bad, but more like the ability to generate new relationships. Get out there and have some fun!!! May your road be filled with peace, joy and love along the way!!!

Huggs and Kisses,,,

I'm single and I love it, and it is up to the single person if they want a romance.
