If they have to state the comment - I question the motive behind it. Met many (including my ex-husband) who said they were Christians cause they went to church or believed in God - yet did drugs, drank to much, screwed anything that walked, bullied others, talked down to people and conned the less intelligent. This is what turned me away from being a Christian - until I finally learned the truth through my own searchings.
A true Christian is someone who's values and morals are obvious to everyone, who's actions speak louder than their words, who is a truly humble person - not seeking to draw attention to themselves for gratification or glory, and who are ready to help anyone at anytime. A true Christian is also someone who admits freely of being a sinner and doesn't shove their beliefs in your face, but shows you through friendly conversation and examples of the wonders of their belief.

There are two kinds of christians, in my opinion, true Christians, and false Christians.
True Christians are wonderful people, the are not judgemental, they do not "throw stones", they follow the guidelines laid down by Jesus himself. These people also lead by example, they are messages, not missionaries.
False Christians are hypocrits, they say one thing and do another. They use their religion as a shield to hide behind, and get involved in politics, trying to force their dogmatic beliefs on everyone else. They try to serve two masters, god and money, and end up being extremely corrupt. They also do not practice what they preach...

Christians are as diverse as any group. I will use my next door neighbors as an example. They are a couple in their late 60s. Both are self-identified Christians.
He is one of the friendliest people in the neighborhood. He goes out of his way to help anyone around that needs assistance without regard to race, belief or sexual orientation. He always greets us and will hang out in the yard for long, friendly conversations. I would categorize him as the salt of the earth.
His wife is opposite in many ways. She only associates with like minded Christians. Her willingness to render aid to people also is only directed at her fellow believers. She never says hello and when I try to greet her she turns away as though I'm not there. When she does look in my or my partner's direction her face has an expression of loathing.
Anyway, my point is, you cannot say that there is one type of Christian. There are many.

I know you didnt ask for a biblical definition, its not like Christian's behave as the Bible would have them behave anyway. The Bible says to be Christian you must strive to behave as The Christ would.
But as has been said already most Christans dont behave any differently from anyone else which to me is sad...you accept a doctrine but refuse to adhere to it.

The people that I have known as Christians have been the most warm, caring people that I have ever known. We're all human, and make mistakes, but when I had my miscarriage, it was my christian sisters who uplifted me and comforted me. They were sent by God to get me through. At the time I belonged to a secular moms group. Although the ladies there were sympathetic, they weren't really equipped to lift me up like my christian friends were. And before that happened, I wouldn't have thought I was any closer to my church friends than to my moms group friends.

In *general*, in my experience, they are people who talk a good game but do not follow their own advice. They feel free to judge other people, but claim they are picked on by a society in which they are the majority.
However, I have also known Christians who do live their lives in a way of which Jesus would approve: They give generously, they care for those less fortunate, they display love for *all* people, and they keep their prayers to themselves like Jesus told them to.

Your question uses the phrase "Christian-like" and I can't help but want to interpret that as Christ-like...but I am afraid I am putting words in your mouth.
So to answer your question, Christians are those who believe Christ is God, the Trinity, but they are human and capable of sin and great things like any other human. To be "Christian" is to be a human who practices a religion.
To be Christ-like is to put love first. It means to care for all others regardless of their creed, belief, orientation. It means to love. Acts of love mean to put the needs of others before your own, to seek justice when there is none to be found, to give people shelter, to feed the hungry, to show comfort...to live like Christ lived.

There is no stereotypical Christian. They come in all sizes, shapes, colors, personalities, education levels, etc. Just like any other group, there are probably a lot you'd like to get to know and a lot you'd cross the street to avoid.

To be a christian means to be saved. It also means to be Christ like. To be Christ like means everything we see in Christ we should strive to be like. No we will not be perfect, but to strive to be as close as one can get. Even christians will struggle with sin and the flesh, but dont look down upon us for we are still being molded by the Masters hands.

Here is an example of a person I think is "Christian" like.
The text of their question, below.
"Why do some people not want to believe in God?
seriously think about it...what do u hav 2 lose 2 believe in god? giving up your chronic, alcoholic sex chasing, lying, decieving, lifestyle n actually follow moral rules to be a good person?? if you believe in god you know that someone loves you...if you believe in god you feel a sense of peace...believe and you feel like your not alone...you can end up in an eternal paradise!!! y would you not want that?? all you hav 2 do is believe its not that hard...there is PLENTY of evidence out there you just cant be lazy and hav to look...plus would you really wat to end up in eternal HELL? cause no one really knos 4 sure wouldnt it suck it it was true".
With that, as evidence of the Religion of Love, is it any wonder people like myself shun "Christians"?
I'm sorry, but the sins committed in the name of the Group, are the Impressions made...
I especially liked the allegation - "your chronic, alcoholic sex chasing, lying, decieving, lifestyle n actually follow moral rules"
I thought that a particularly damning indictment.
Thank you for your time, and No, I'm still not interested in hearing about how God can change my life, especially if that's the kind of person I'm going to become.
And that is my honest opinion.
