I have read a lot about ProActive and everything I read is conflicting. Of course the advertisements are sooo positive, and makes me want to call and order some. But then I looked on consumer reports and read some horror stories (about how it made people break out in hard cist-like bumps, get rashes, etc). I know everyone's different but what's the majority think...does it work or not? I have hardly any pimples on my face, but I have a huge breakout on my back. I need something to use. Thanx

I'm not going to say ProActive doesn't work, but I will say two things.

First, something to keep in mind about ProActive is that they want to sell you a whole system, not just one or two products, they say will improve your skin's appearence dramatically. And in order to get the deisred results, you have to use the entire system as instructed for at least a certain number of days... What is it? 30 days? I believe if you went to the drug store and bought three or four skin care products from any one brand and used them religiously for 30 days, you would see improvements. For most of us, it is hard to make that kind of commitment, but if we do, you could have better skin with almost any products/regimine... Even one less expensive than ProActive.

Second, it seems impressive that ProActive has all these celebrities that endorse their products. I read somewhere that Jessica Simpson got $8 million for her ProActive endorsement deal. For that kind of money, they'll say anything... true or not.

Best wishes!

I did not start to get acne until I was an adult. When I did, I had a permanent area of pimples on my face. Nothing I did worked, so I ordered proactive on the advice of two good friends. It has definitely worked. I have been using it for about 8 months. You have to work with it to find your "sweet spot". I only use it in the morning because overuse severely dried out my face, and I use the whole system. It is a good product, but you have to work with it to figure out what's best for your face. I never break out anymore. That being said, I haven't used it anywhere but on my face- so I can't speak to your back issues.

The effect of a certain product is highly relative. What's good for me may not be good for you. I've tried using ProActive several months ago and the results were really not that good. Though i do'nt have manifestations of allergic reaction like rashes or bumps, the pimples just wont go away. Better yet consult ypur dermatologist, acne clear plus or other facial treatment will always be a lot better than using commercially prepared products. Take it from me. Been there...done that!

Okay, I have used proactive several times in the past. This is the truth about ProActive. It works in the beginning and then your face becomes immune to it and then it doesnt. So, yes, most see results but eventually, it will stop working. If it is for your body, then I think you will be okay.

OK. I am a Mary Kay beauty consultant who had terrible acne until I started using Mary Kay's sensitive skin care products.. I am breakout free!! Here is the deal behind ProActive.. YES, it is a wonderful product because it uses 3 key features. 1st feature is a cleansing and buffing cream that kills bacteria deep in the skin by removing (sand blasting) the dead skin cells off the top layer of your dermis. This is good, but with daily use (as you would have to use it), it makes your skin callous and form cystic acne. The skin will thicken in response to the buffing and make it harder for you to get rid of the bacteria in the skin causing the acne. 2nd feature is the toner. This is good, because once you have cleansed your skin you have changed the pH (acidity) of your skin. This alone can cause skin irritations and break outs. So, the toner brings your skin back to its normal pH level. Then lastly, you have a moisturizer with benzoyl peroxide. This is good because you must keep your skin moist and the peroxide kills bacteria. BUT, it can also affect the color of your skin (make it lighter). SO, there are good and bad things about ProActive. I used to use it myself and found that I did have worse acne from using it. But, that was just me. If you are interested in free skin care advice or other skin care products, check out my website at www.marykay.com/marshal I ship products for free and with every order of 40 dollars or more you get a FREE gift!! I like ProActive for my face. It makes it really clear and helps remove anything that has to do with acne. I don't know how it would be on back since it will be hard to use the wash there. If you do get it, make sure you use it every day and to use all of the steps... the wash, the toner, the lotion. And always put sunscreen on after using it.

I'm using Proactiv now and it was a bit rough at first but my skin is getting used to it.Benzoyl Peroxide is what dries out the skin so you might want to incorporate a moisturizer.

For what I paid for the product, I wasn't impressed. I have gotten the same results with products bought from the store. Plus, it really dried my skin, took a little while for it to get back to normal. And I thought I got worse break-outs while using the stuff.
I used to get some breakouts on my back, try an antibacterial soap with a "loof-a" type sponge. That worked for me and I haven't had a break out since. Also, regularly wash your bras while you are doing this. That can contribute to back acne too.

It didn't personally work for me, but it has for some of my friends. It's just different for everyone. If you decide to try it, realize that you have to do it twice a day, everyday for a few months before you get any results.
