My friend has always seems to have gotten depressed and upset easily, even before he did coke. He was always emotional. Now he's becoming forgetful and seems to have two different personalities, or just total mood swings. His girlfriend said he sleep walks at night a lot and does strange things. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

As some others have said, it can't cause it but it can most definitely bring it out or accelerate it.
Happened recently to someone very close to me...he's about 32 years old....been doing coke since he was 27 and now the very mild schizophrenia he's had for many years but remained locked down just burst out uncontrollably....and he's in a psychiatric clinic and I'm not even allowed to see him...the coke not only accelerates it but also aggrevates the condition severely...

My answer may not be correct; however, it is an opinion.
I am going to say yes, look at it this way you are putting a foreign substance in your body that is in a sense "poisoning"; since Schizophrenia is a state of mind that is caused by a chemical imbalance and or trauma I see no reason why this is not possible. If it can cause paranoia and depression why can it not cause schizophrenia? I am going to stick to my opinion and believe that this is possible, prolong substance abuse reaps havoc on your brain, and your psychical body in several ways. Not only does it cause mental, but it cause cause latter on in life conditions like heart problems, nervous system problems and the list can go on an on.
I am sorry if people don't agree with my question but again this is my opinion and I say YES!

No. It cannot. Now that said, here is what can happen. Abuse of drugs can cause brain damage and that can cause a person to look "crazy". It is called Chronic Brain Syndrome and the person has poor memory, and is generally dull.
Another thing that can happen is, many people with symptoms of schizophrenia can control the symptoms and hide them. But when brain damage occurs, they can no longer control the symptoms and they start looking schizophrenic. The drug use did not cause it, just brought it out.

No, it can cause paranoia and depression with severe addiction, as well as make you thin and put strain on your heart and wallet, but schizophrenia is a sickness that you either have or don't.

Look what it did to Tony Montana.
I know that it was a theatrical dramatization but the effects are based in reality.
