I suppose in this day and age when people can complain about women wearing too much perfume, they can also argue just about anything. Unlike the person above who thinks that 'hairy is ugly', I really couldn't care less. If you think you can get away with challenging the system then go ahead and see how it goes over.
The excess heat is a different issue and one that you can legitimately complain about. I face the same issue with an immigrant woman here at my workplace who insists on setting the room temperature over 90, then closes the office door! It's really unhealthy and gives me headaches to no end. If someone has to wear a toque indoors when it's over 70, then that person needs to have their circulation checked. My response is to open the window, even in the winter. Ultimately, we found a medium, but others aren't so lucky.

I live in the States; however, in the professional realm most all men I have seen either keep their shirts buttoned to the neck and/or wear a crew-neck undershirt. It gets hot here too and that's even more reason to do it. Wearing an undershirt provides a sweat barrier between your nice work shirt and your body. I feel for your situation but professional men and women make all sorts of uncomfortable compromises to look professional. I am overjoyed that we, women, finally can shed our hosiery and go to work bare legged. Try wearing pantyhose on 90+ degree hot and humid summer days!
Are you sure you're not reacting more out of a twinge of intolerance for foreigners?

Unfortunately the world over there are standards of dress set out for everyone to observe. I'm not sure exactly where you're from, but here in Canada we have dress codes at places of business. Some are meant as safety precautions, depending on the work environment, some are established as ways to assure a certain decorum and tone are set:as in a business like atmosphere. Often when you're hired for certain positions you will be issued an employee guide book that will address such issues. Sadly some employers judge employees by appearances, its just a fact of life that has to be dealt with.As to your concern about comfort in an overly warm environment, you could maybe resort to wearing natural fibre type clothing that allows for air circulation, and while I'm at it ;women in Canada in the workplace have to observe dress codes as well. One of the key things in business/public relations is to be able to adapt to whatever environment you're in, sorry but that's the way it is.

Well for one thing it is not very lady-like.
Seriously,I understand that for some it might be unsightly, but I can not see the big deal..the women would cause a quite bit more attention in their manner of dressing I would think...rather than a man's hairy chest. Then again, I am a guy.

Just because something is natural doesn't make it attractive. I gag at the sight of hairy people, and it's nasty. If you work on your appearance a bit more, you'll get a better job. That's how it is.
And as for the foreigners part, now you know how my Native American ancestors felt when the English came. Welcome to being on the other end.

I think it all depends on weather or not you are looking sleezy, or if its like those shirts that were open to the navel in the 70's. Depends on the job too.
I dont know... I have seen some woman, who shouldnt wear open necked shirts themselves. Nasty.
