The world is choking with too many problems already. What if you could start anew instead of fix them? Let's say you have your own country. Let's assume your country has a lot of natural resources, is pretty empty, and only people you approve of are allowed to live there. What would you do to realize your definition of an ideal state?

I would try to keep it as serene and country like as possible.
Use only natural resources as allowable. No fuel based transportation. Not quite to the "amish" extent. But I would definitely form some type of Constitution, similar to ours. but with todays norms/language kept in mind. There would be strict penalties, including exile for some crimes. If someone is caught littering, then they would be sentenced to things such as becoming the trash person for a certain amount of time without pay. Make them pick up everybody's trash.
As far as people, there would be a serious background check first. Nobody who has ever been convicted of sex crimes or murder. Nobody convicted of crimes against children. Volunteer service would be taken into acct. those who do good are first to live there. Hospitals would be free (within reason), the harder working blue collar type people would be more than welcome. As would drs, agriculturist, any profession that could increase country value. We would join the UN asap, for our own protection from invasion. We would have a working military. Those who have been prior military from other countries are automatically senior officers.

I already do.
Lots of natural resources, is pretty empty, and only people I approve of live there...
Yes, that pretty much covers it.
Maybe some more natural resources would come in handy.
My Ideal State with the twenty or so million others who share it with me.
Thank you for reminding me of what it is I love about the country of my birth, my home.
It's Australia.
No other words of praise, no anthems, no accolades could ever describe it better.
I really do live in the best place on earth, with, as I said, twenty something million people.
People, just like me. With hopes and dreams and aspirations. With likes and dislikes, friendships, disagreements. People, just being humble, simple, good people.
Best place on earth, this.
If you'll excuse me, I've just got to go outside and kiss the garden, and tell it how much I love it. (Yes, that's sarcasm, down here, it passes for humour).
Cheers.

My country would be an island in the South Pacific. I'd join the UN, and OPEC. Even if there is no oil in my country. Then I'd make a case for a Trade embargo against Bolivia. My form of govt. would be Facist-Commies. My team would make the World Cup every 4 years, and i'd pay the officials to allow them to win it. Then I'd boycott every summer olympic games, but join the winter ones
. maybe in about 6 months after we have a flag and an offical anthem plus an offical flower, I'd declare war against the U.S. and send all 18 of my soldiers to invade any unhinhabited island belonging to the U.S.

I'd run a lazy and somewhat leniant fascist dictatorship whereby I had the last say in things but otherwise didn't control peoples lives too much. I'd just publically humiliate the odd person who was being a pain in the ar5e to serve as an example to the others (not kill them nor lock them up.... just do something to take away their dignity and pride for a while). .... Y'know.... just punish the odd person who refused to be decent, reasonable and sensible.... or proselytised in the street... or somesuch.
I'd probably also ask the farmer-folk nicely to grow big fields of cannabis and sell it to folks at a reasonable price (not getting greedy).... and ensure that people spent most of their lives at least a bit stoned.... to help them chill out.

Well... that and I'd let nature's law hold sway. If folks were dying of nasty illnesses, I'd let them die.... and teach their families not to fret about it too much. Death is totally natural afterall. They just need to be more sensible about their breeding habits to ensure they make offspring less likely to die at the slightest provocation.

I would erect a Place of Gods People, a great city, and outside of the city the lands will be far reaching and all will be great, then come to a wall, a great big wall, and outside are the unbelieveing.

forced carpooling to reduce traffic... separate roads for commercial, residential, and mass transit... personalized tax deferment... tight focus on education of students in as many languages, cultures, systems; schools would focus on personal students' growth versus the appearance of the schools...
