I have a 10 month old b!tch who tried to 'hump' me! I couldn't believe it, i thought this might be male dog behaviour, is it normal for a female dog too?

Shes a little half cross terrier, so light enough for me to throw her off me, which I did, until she tried it again!

Congratulations! Your adolescent dog just made her first serious challenge to your authority! Throwing her off was not a bad response. I'd have added a little "roaring" or at least a firm "no". It's dominate behavior and you may wish to consider a basic obedience class with her (hard to consider yourself boss while sitting & downing on commnand)
PS pawstime cows do not mount each other to show dominance - they do so to attract the attention of the bull(s) to the one in season!

Even though your pup isnt spayed, she can still hump, and yes, even though she is female. As someone above replied (although i dont agree with the rest of what he said), it is a dominance behavior. She is trying to dominate you. Do not continue to let her do this. The minute she gets on you, tell her "down, no". It's not a behavior that you would want to encourage- and im sure you dont want to either! Once she is spayed, it may help, or you may just have to train her/find a trainer to help you. Good luck!

I agree with Nemesis, this is dominant behaviour not a sexual thing at all, you need to do some training with her and let her know that you are boss not her! I don't agree that you should hit her though, when you groom her and I'm not joking with what I'm going to say, but when you groom her, if she is a large bred ie. Lab, German Shepherd, that kind of size, you straddle her to groom her back and sides, in other words you 'mount her' with a smaller breed you get on your knees and do the same thing, I know it sounds funny, but it will show her that you are 'alpha' and not her! when you see female cows humping other female cows in a field it is purely dominant behaviour and nothing else.

It is normal for a female.. even ones that have been spayed. I have a female that is spayed and *ugg* she does it! But it's not out of excitement it's a dominance thing. She is just trying to show that she is "in charge"!

This is your dog trying to show you that she is more dominant than you. She does not see you as the boss, she thinks she is. Basic obedience will help. In the meantime make sure you do not let her get away with it. Calmly get her off and tell her no each time.

Female dogs will "hump" things including peoples legs when they are frisky. Has she been spayed, is in season or due in season? It sounds like she's ready to mate or soon to be.
If she has been spayed then it could just be over excitment.

It is normal behaviour for bitches to show aswell. It can be stopped by telling her no every time and removing her from the same room as you for 5-10mins,spaying also can help stop this unwanted behaviour.

Yep. Female dogs do it too. Its usually a dominance thing - nothing much to do with sexual behaviour.
