For people who do not use the KING JAMES BIBLE why have you chosen not to use it?

i my self do not use it the decision came after doing research on the man. and also it says king James version not translation.

the definition is- A version is any change in form.

Translation is the interpretation of the meaning of a text in one language (the "source text") and the production, in another language, of an equivalent text (the "target text," or "translation") that communicates the same message.

The man was quite, selfish, paranoid and bizarre.
He demonstrated hatred toward entire groups of people which I do not find to be very christian like.

A "translation" is any time you "translate" a document from one language to another. Any Bible in a language other then the original Greek or Hebrew is a translation.
A "version" is when you take multiple variations of the same document and merge them together into one "version". Only a variation of the original Greel or Hebrew manuscript can be a version.

Any Bible which is not in the original Greek or Hebrew langauge is a "translation", not a version. A text for the original manuscript is a "version".

So there really is not such thing as the King James "version" of the Bible. It is not a "version", it is a "translation". However because people do not always use words correctly, it has become common to use "version" and "translation" interchangably when speaking of the Bible.


As far as using the Authorized version (the correct name of the book often refered to as the King James Bible), I grew up with it. But I have switched to using other versions (most often the New King James) because after 400 years the language of the Authorized version is showing its age. Too many of the word have changed meanings (such as when Paul says he wanted to go to Rome, but satan "let" him - "let" use to mean "hindered" but now means "allowed") or become obscure (what is a "troth"?) or use grammer structures that are no longer used today (such as there are no 's for possessive - it always says the Son of God, not God's Son). So it is reaching the point where you have to "translate" the translation before you can understand it.


Finally, King James had nothing to do personally with the the translation which bears his name. It was begun before he came to the throne of England. He just happened to be the ruler at the time it was published. As the current King of England is also the head of the Church of England by default, the first edition of the book was dedicated to him. It is from that dedication that his name came to be connected with the book. But he did not authorize, pay for, influence, or control any part of the translating of the book.

The KJV, like other Clemetine Bibles has a lot of mistakes.

Bibles translated in the 1800's are more accurate because more is available then and now as compared to when the Douay, the King James was translated.

Bibles with the works of Westcott and Hort are very accurate.
Their works are awarded in the Greek scholar world but not accepted by churches, Why? Because their works dissprove much of church doctrine.

The American Standard , the English Standard, the Darby, the Weymonth(I think), and the NWT are very accurate.

The language is difficult for the average person to understand since it is not spoken. Let's face it, parts of the bible even in simple everyday English take some study to understand. Since the KJV or any other translation was translated from the Greek and Hebrew Language there are some words that tend to loose their meaning.

I use the modern version just because it is in our language. The KJV has beautiful language, but I think the new revised standard is better.

I actually used the King James Bible when I went to Sunday School. It was a bit different than the one the teacher used (like, the words), but I really like it. I bought mine with cute picture illustrations. Awfully adorable! =)!!!
