An idle mind IS the devil's workshop..and it is the devil, who puts these thoughts in your mind..you must not let this kind of evil overcome you, as you have grandkids, a wife, and children who I am sure adore you, whose lives' would be destroyed if they lost you too soon...A dear friend just lost his life at sixtytwo, and the devastation it brought, was and is horrible to his kids and family..they are tore up over it...Get out and go for a nice long walk, drive yourself somewhere, get some decaf, walk through the park..relieves stress, lowers your bloodpressure, and gives you time to stop and smell the roses, and to be thankful for all the wonderful things God has blessed you with...My prayers are for you sweetheart..you are going to get over this, and put it behind you and NEVER think this way again! With love, through Jesus..

My dad is 75, he already had a quadruple heart bypass and a kidney stone operation. My mom is 60. They often get depressed and most of the time they confide in me but I end up with blank answers to their problems.
Nevertheless, I have always assured them that we (their children) will always be here for them no matter what.
I am sure there are also friends and relatives who feel the same about you.

You are currently in late adulthood and are suffering from the integrity v despair conflict. This is where you look back on life either positively or negatively. In your case you are looking back and feeling that your life was worthless.
Try taking up a hobby and becoming more involved with your grandchildren. For example take them out.

Yes see a medical professional, and not to sound preachy.
But a personal relationship with God will really help you come out of your depression. It did me on more than one occasion.
Once you start focusing on God your perspective on everything will change. As you seek Him, God will help you overcome anything. If you don't have a church home, turn on your TV. Look for Joyce Meyer or Joel Osteen, they are two very practical and uplifting teachers/ministers.

Depression is very common in our age group. Medications and health problems also contribute to this, you should mention your depression to your doctor (he or she) can help to determine what can be done. Please do not act on your suicide thoughts, you have a lot of people that love you. Having a family is worth staying alive if not for yourself for them. You don't sound like a selfless person and I can tell your family means a lot to you, I'd be willing to bet you mean a lot to them. Please speak to your doctor. Consider the guilt everyone will experience. Suicide it a permanent solution to what may be a simple health issue.
