First, what doesn't help. 85 % of all sore throats are viral. The remaining 15% are bacterial, but statistically if they are given antibiotics the average effect is to reduce the illness by 24 hours only. This means overall their effect is pretty minimal.

Gargling with aspirin is irritant and can make things worse, gargling with salt water is no longer recommended.

If you have no stomach issues and are not asthmatic, ibuprofen may be used as well as paracetamol. One of the OTC throat sprays like chloraseptic or diflam may reduce your symptoms. Remember to drink plenty of fluids.

I used chloraseptic spray, took 2 tylenol and drank tons of water. This hydrates the cells, and numbs your throat. I also found out that the lemon tea from dunkin donuts seems to help. Its something in the teabag... but not sure what... You can also try honey if youdont have chloraseptic spray....This will work on most sore throats unless you have strep. So if this doesnt work after 4-5 days, still see a dr.

Yes! Get some dissolvable paracetamol. Dissolve in about half a wine glass of water and gargle with it. After each gargle, swallow down. But remember, only 8 tabs a day.

Gargling salt water does help. Also, I found sore throat relief medicines at the drug store. I bought a spray kind that basically numbed my throat for a while. You can try that too.

Heat some water and add salt(make sure the water is hot but not too hot for your mouth) and gargle(don't swallow!) for maybe 30seconds each time till it runs out and relief should come soon. It's best done right before going to sleep that way when you wake up you will have relief.

You will get instant relief, and I really mean 'instant', by taking some form of aloe Vera. Either by gargling with the drink or allowing a gel to slide down your throat. Don't use Holland and Barrett as their aloe drink is only 10 per cent aloe Vera -the rest is grape juice. find a supplier of forever living products, as theirs is the only pure aloe.

You can gargle with salt water (don't swallow!!!)
Buy some throat sweets. Strepsils are good as they are medicated with a light anaesthetic to ease the pain.

Also take co-codamol for pain relief.

Sure!! There's Chloreseptic Spray, Hall cough drops, Vick's drops, pretty much anything that you would use for coughing will make your throat feel better too. Go to the store and see what they have over the counter and pick one. Hope you feel better soon!!!

What you do is get a coffee cup you're lemon and honey warm it in microwave then pour only cap full into the warm cup stir drink. don't warm the liquor in the microwave because it will evaporate the alcohol.
