You are right I never believe the news or any other mainstream media because they are run by governments or other powerful people who like to set the agenda.
Its hard to read between the lines in these circumstances but other questions need to be asked.
Like what if the sailors were in Iranian waters. The Brits and Americans have spies all over the world i wouldnt be surprised if those sailors were part of a bigger operation than the spin we were first told. They could have been extracting SAS guys out of Iran or something.
If you think about it, with the present situation with Iran it just seems stupid for them to go and take British sailors hostage. I smell a load of b*~#&@ks.

Okay kids put your conspiracy-crackpipes down and take off your tin-foil hats and LOOK at a damned MAP !!
Also remember that the Iranian's FIRST gave GPS coordinates that put the incident FIRMLY in Iraq's waters and only LATER changed the GPS location!!
The seizure took place 1.7 miles INTO Iraqi waters 7.5 miles southeast of Al Faw Penisula... Now I know most of you armchair commandoes have never been out there, but the Gulf is a VERY busy chunk of water, so there are MANY targets to clutter ones screen.
That's why you have the helicopter providing overwatch for the boatcrews. The Destroyer has to stand off further out to sea to avoid getting stuck in the restrictive waters of a channel, and the HELO is watching THEIR GPS to make sure that THEY don't stray into Iranian airspace.
So the Iranian boats just come out of their base on the Shatt Al Arab (a 3 mile wide river)... move along their side of the "border"... and then when then have the merchant in between them and the destroyer (hiding them from radar)... they zip that 1.7 miles and grab some hostages.
At 25 knots (simple speed for Iranian speedboats)... the Iranians could have traveled from THEIR water to the site in less than 4 minutes.
Sorry, I don't smell ANY conspiracy... and I sailed / overflew that area for 4 years

You really need to read a news report before blathering on like this. The reason the British know the sailors were operating inside Iraqi waters is based on information from the GPS system on the boat. Not statements by the sailors. Further, this was not a large state of the art warship, but rather a smaller excursion and boarding craft. Lastly, what makes you assume they didn't know the Iranians were coming? While they might have been apprehensive there would have been no reason to adopt an attack posture based on the fact that they were operating in Iraqi waters and no one is at war with Iran.

The "fog of war". You can know your location, but not the exact location of patrol boats who can skim under the radar. They are not large surface ships, you know?
Regardless of how this happened, the fact remains, it did happen. And the Iranians had no right to detain those soldiers and not allow international access to them. Neither should they be forced to make false confessions for something they did not do.
This was no stunt. As a matter of fact, the Iranians commited an act of war against the British. Why the Brits are not bombing the hell out of them, I will never know. If they were American soldiers, we would be making attempts to get them, or Iran would be flattened like a pancake.
Are you some kind of Muslim sympathizer?

Don't you watch the news? The British were out patrolling when they spotted a ship and decided to make a routine search. As they approached, two Iranian boats pulled up alongside with rocket propelled grenades etc, whilst they had only handguns and rifles. What is the point of your question anyway?

What a maroon. A small craft in Iraq waters do routine search operations. Of course they are going to be on the watch for fast attack boats from Iran of all places. [sarcasm]
Iran wants to push the Brits like they did before [and their succeeding]

surly your question should be "can we believe Tony Blairs account of where the ship and boats were" or are these more lies like weapons of mass destruction ? If he's have not tried to hood wink us over that, then i might be more able to believe him about the gps positions of our ship and boats. As for them not being aware of the fact that Iranian gun boats were approaching our boats, there was nothing we could do about it, as the water was too shallow for the ship to be effective.

The British sailors were in a small craft used to approach other boats and ships. Not in a state of the art warship. They probably knew the other ships were in the area, but would have no idea what nationality they were till they were in sight. Then it was too late.

Another Conspiracy!.
You don't don't mention the fact either that the Americans watched it all unfold. They sat back because they wanted it to happen as well.
Now nobody has to display a thesis in the house of commons to justify taking out the Iranian Nuclear facilities, or other infrastructure.
The Iranians have fallen into the trap!!!.
God help us if Diplomacy fails..........amen.
