I need a short but nice way of telling them I really don't want to buy their products.

I live in NYC, home of some of the most savviest and persistent sales people on the planet. The key to saying "no" is to remember that they hear it all the time; sometimes even rudely. They expect you to say "no". Look your salesperson in the eye and say in a clear voice, with conviction, "I am not interested." No smile, no worrying about their feelings. Remember, they are sales people and not your friends. Wasting their time with your hemming and hawing is a lot more cruel than saying no right away. That way they can move on to other possible customers.

I just say "no thank you" and smile, but I make it quite clear I am definitely not interested in buying their product. Salespeople are trained to leap on the slightest inflection of doubt in your voice and try and turn it into a "yes".

If it's someone on my doorstep and they won't go away, threatening with the police works wonders.

I always laugh and pretend that I'm completely avoiding them by making eye contact but shielding my face with my hand, yet smiling... they usually get a kick out of it and they're fine with letting you go on your way cause you obviously don't want to be bothered. I live on a military base and there are always stands in the doorway with people trying to sell you vehicles... I always do this, they always laugh, and I always get on my way.

If it's a telemarketer do what Jerry Seinfeld did. Say that you're busy now and will call them back and ask for their number. If they come to the door, I just don't answer the door.

Simply say: No Thank you....but keep it moving, don't linger or hang around. If there is no where to go, just say it with a really assertive voice, stern but not harsh.

It works!!!

Just say no thank you. If they persist after you have said that, then they are being rude and you can just say goodbye. It takes practice not to feel you have to explain why, but go ahead and give it a try.

Lower your voice and be direct....like when you tell a 2 year old no... a gentler, soft no means maybe.....pause...then follow it up with a nicer thank you and a smile. KEEP MOVING....lol
