Last week i got a nasty cold, and now i can't smell, taste or barely hear anything. First my nose got all plugged up, that has pretty much gone away. But for the past 4 days my ears have been plugged and it is like i am hearing everything from far away. Also i can't taste anything, only sweet and everything sweet tastes the same.
My question is should i go to the doctor for this or will it clear up on it's own? I lost my job due to the company closing so i have no income and no insurance right now. Any help anyone can give me would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

You have an eustachian tube blockage, which is why your hearing is rather strange. That is the tube that runs from your inner ear to the back of the nasal passage, and lets your ear equalize pressure. It can become blocked by mucus when you have a cold, which is what sounds like has happened. As long as you are not running a fever, you can try to treat it yourself. First you need will need to take an over the counter medication for sinus congestion, which will help encourage drainage. Then you need to do whats called a valsalva manuever to clear the tubes. This is done by holding your nose and gently blowing. If the tubes are completely blocked, this may be painful, so don't blow too hard and stop when you feel any pain. Do this same thing several times per day. As the tubes clear, you may feel the eardrum feel like it is expanding, or you may feel a pop. When you actually feel your ears pop, the tube is clear. You will still need to do the maneuver for a few days afterwards to make sure it stays that way. If it feels like the eardrum is "stuck", try moving your lower jaw forward and yawning, which will help reset it.
You likely have less sense of taste because the cold is still hanging in there, and less smell means less taste, believe it or not. As the cold passes and you clear up the other problem, you should regain the sense of taste. If you start to run a fever at all, though, or if things aren't showing improvement in a few days though- you will need to visit a doctor for medications to finish the job. Most ear infections will heal without antibiotics, since they are due to viral infections like a cold, but on occasion a bacteria takes advantage of things and that does need antibiotics to clear up. Drink loads of fluids, eat well, and rest, and take the over the counter drugs. The pharmacist can recommend something if you aren't sure, just explain the trouble. With luck, you should be better in 3-4 days and note an improvement in taste as well.

You're coming down with a sinus illness. You stuck it early. To do away with the indicators, placed two tablespoons of salt into a million/two glass of water. Use a teaspoonfull and inhale this into each and every nose. It will sting a few however the illness will likely be stopped. To maintain from getting any longer, take a teaspoon of nearby honey each and every morning. It will support your frame increase imunities to the airborne irritants which can be to your field. You mostly blew your nostril too difficult and created cuts or cracks within the sinus cavities that have been simply ready to turn out to be inflamed. Don't get addicted to nasal decongestants. They will dry up the whole thing up there however you'll no longer be competent to get the stuff out. After a even as, you can be on the medical institution getting them wiped clean out with a water spray. Not amusing. Been there, performed that. The honey will support you from getting bloodless and flu symtoms as good. Natural remedies and preventitives are the exceptional on your frame ultimately. No aspect impacts, no scientific costs and no longer term harm in your frame.

I usualy use benadryl over the counter to dry up the sinus and ears . There is another way to clear the sinus most people dont want to try this Take 1 tsp of NON IODINE salt . Mix it in a half gallon of DISTILLED WATER . Get a nose syringe like the kind you use on a baby to clear their nose. Now take about 8 oz of the salt water and heat it in a microwave for about 45 seconds you dont want it hot just luke warm. Take the sryinge and suck up some of the water in the syringe Hold your head over the sink and close off one nostril with your thumb with your free hand squirt the solution of salt water into your open nostril till you fill that side of your nose then blow it out of the same nostril. do the same for the other side. you will be amazed all the junk that comes out . Do this about 2 times a day and your cold will clear up in no time. I have had sinus problems for 20 years and I do this method every day. good luck

Try this. Take a hand towel or a kitchen towel wet it and wring it out. Heat it in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds.
Place it folded on your face. It will heat and add moisture to your sinus cavities and thin out the mucus to help it drain.

The wet heat on the back of the neck works also. Repeat as needed. Drink hot fluids like tea, coffee or broth, they will also help thin out the mucus. Breath deep in a hot steamy shower.

When I was a child we always got Vick's vaporub on the chest and had to stand over a pot of hot steaming water with some Vick's in it and breath it in to heat up and thin out the mucus in the nasal passages. This will also heat the mucus in the Eustachian tubes to your ears and help clear your hearing.

I must say it always worked. We rarely had a cold for more than a day or two.

Amazingly enough since I we started (hubby and I) getting flu shots 8 years ago, we have had no colds, sinus problems and only one small bout with the flu. Thanks to my granddaughter.

Give the hot towels a try, they really do help.

You can go to see a doctor for medicine for your cold. Or you can try to take spirulina for it. Sorry to hear that you are out of work, but you can try to find one. I have a part time job if you are interested email me.
