Yes I am totally guilty of this. I'll even look at someone if they eat something off the floor and be like ewww! However there is a limit. I don't eat it if it falls outside or if it's some non dry food that could cause gross floor stuff to stick to it.

Yeah, we have the *5 second* rule in my house. If it hits the floor, as long as it's there for less than 5 seconds, it's safe to eat. :) This applies to dry food (potato chips, crackers, cookies, etc.) only. If it's a spoonful of potato salad or a bite of meat or something, then it's pitched in the trash.

This is why my husband and I are a match made in heaven! I won't eat it if it's been on the floor, regardless of the 5 second rule, but before I can get it to the trash bin, he always laughs and says, "here, give it to me, I'm not afraid of a few germs!"

yep i've done that too. Although when i drop something at home and i;m alone i do dust it off and eat it, but if i had to drop it outside i'd still throw it away (even if no-one was watching), cos i know it would be a lot dirtier then

Depends on how clean the floor is and what it is I am eating. If it is likely to pick up dirt from the floor then it goes in the bin.

If it is something like a potato crisp on a clean floor then I would eat it.

Apparently if you pick it up within 3 seconds of dropping it it'll be ok. Thats what i heard from some sciency programme who tested for bacteria afterwards. That would be off my own floor though, not from off the street or a cafe etc.

No, I don't do that. Not because it is something I wouldn't do, but....when I was in my own house, it was very clean, but I had a little dog, so I didn't eat off the floor. Now I am staying with a friend who is not into cleanliness; I clean up, but who knows what happens when I am not here.

There is nothing wrong with doing what you do though.

Yes, I have. If it falls on what looks to be a clean floor. If it falls into the dirt, I throw it away.

I figure we all have to eat a pound of dirt or two anyway in a normal life span, don't we?

Depends on what it falls on. If it falls on the floor, then it ends up in the bin. If it falls on a clean table or my clothes, then I pick it up and eat it, no matter if I'm alone or have company.
