hi all. in less than 2 months from now, im leaving for the navy, and im somewhat excited and nervous...but what i wanted to know is that since i signed up for 4 years in the service, how and when do i sign up to become a naval flight officer? could i be taking the required classes WHILE in my 4 years of service? and will this enable me to become a commercial pilot in the future? and if the navy does pay for college, where are some schools that has an NROTC program and an aviation school in it too. thanks

well, if you are enlisting, you are going about it the wrong way.

NFOs must be Officers, with a 4 year degree. NFOs are NOT pilots!!!!!!!! Goose from Top Gun was a NFO.. Back seat driver.

It is VERY difficult to get a 4 year degree while on AD.. because while you are in Boot camp and A school, you will NOT be allowed to take any outside classes. your first duty station's OPTEMPO will determine the feasibility of getting any classes in, between underway periods or while deployed.

If you want to be an Aviator, than go into college NOW and utilize ROTC. that will give you the Commissioning opportunity, and as long as you have a the other Quals, physical and otherwise, you might get screened for Aviation.
