I just took my dog home from Petsmart grooming. I asked for a bath, brush, and Flea and tick shampoo. I noticed he has been nibiling near his tail and has been licking it for 4 hours now. Then, I decided to pull his hair back and I saw two black dots. What should I do, my mom would be pissed if she heard that I let my dog in the house with fleas. I need good tip how to remove fleas from my house and my dog. Also, Should I go to petsmart and complain?

Don't trust petshop flea preparations, they're worthless I'm afraid.

Get yourself some Frontline or Stronghold/Revolution from the vet and you'll be fine. Most vets will dispense this without needing to see the animal. It is more expensive, but this is because it actually works!

I'm afraid you've just discovered what most people eventually do - that you might as well rub your money over your dog than spend it on petshop flea treatment - it'd be just as effective and probably safer!

Absolutely complain to PetSmart - I think it's outrageous that petshops can get away with selling this cheap crap that doesn't work. If everyone who had this problem complained maybe they'd get a clue. I've written to Bob Martin (rubbish and dangerous flea treatment) and even taken them to a consumer affairs programme. Every little helps!

Apply Frontline or Advantage monthly . Both of these are available only from vets. Maybe you can try revolution (as was explained by Michelle). If your surroundings are infested with fleas maybe revolution is the best choice because it would also sterilize the females. But if you want fast action, Frontline and Advantage will do it the moment you apply it. But for very heavily infested dog , maybe it will take a while to minimize if not eradicate fleas. Also you must vacuum your carpet and around you house often to remove flea larva. deposited in it. Products sold over the counter are often not effective or not potent enough to kill fleas. So better buy from a vet clinic.

First of all the shampoos will only kill the live adult fleas on the dog it will not get rid of any eggs..... I just went through this myself last year... My dog NEVER had fleas until we moved into our new home.... one week later she was covered the things were having races on her belly and to add insult to injury was told they were CAT fleas (yes dogs can get them)......I bathed her daily with no lasting results...... My Vet recommended a product called REVOLUTION it is a pill you give your dog once a month. When the adult flea bites your dog it becomes sterile cannot produce eggs and will die..... As for your home vacuum, regularly during flea season. It also prevents new fleas from staying on your dog as well, they will seek other animals...... We have never had a flea problem since....... there are other brands out there as well but make sure they kill the eggs and/or render the flea sterile.... not all do flea control products do.....Tried frontline and it didnt kill the eggs and still found fleas...

You can check them all out at www.1800PetMeds.com Plus it is usually cheaper to order from them as well.....
