I have a 6 y/old chocolate lab and she is a loving dog around myself, family, friends and my two huskies but when other dogs come around she becomes very aggressive towards them and I am afraid to walk her because of this problem. If I could I would always bring her to a dog run but I cannot and it is frustrating because I know she is not happy. I need help, anyone have any tips.

It sounds like it would be helpful to talk to a professional dog trainer. All of the professional trainers that I know will work with the type of problems that you are describing. Go to the Association of Pet Dog Trainers at www.apdt.com to find a trainer in your area. You may also want to check with your vet especially if this is a change in behavior. There's no "quick fix" for dog to dog aggression. If she's fine at your house and with your dogs then maybe she's just as happy not interacting with other dogs. Good luck.

Is she spayed? That often helps with aggressiveness. Some dogs take 6 years until they become fully mentally mature. Then they become protective of the property, their owners, etc. I'm having the same problem with my dog. He's around the same age.

If she's aggressive towards anyone who comes and visits, tell her off and put her in another room. Once she settles down take her out again and watch her for any hostile behaviour. If she becomes aggressive again put her back in the room. Keep repeating this process, until she will learn, that she is NOT aloud to be aggressive,. Soon she will discontinue doing so. I hope this works.

Hi, She's probably going into protective mode when other dogs come around, she may see this as threateniong to her pack. Take her out alone, go to dog classes and seek advice. Jim

this is terrible to say, but if you have an aggressive dog when they are young, you have to let them know who is boss. i'm not telling you to beat your dog. hit your dog once in the ribs or on the nose pretty hard and they should get scared. your dog will still love you and also know that he/she can not be aggressive
