What does iran gain by kidnapping these british marines .
The whole world knows that anything said or written in those circumstances is done under duress .
Do the iranian people themselves really believe what they are told .
I cant believe they are so gullible or stupid to believe that prisoners will speak freely or will be allowed to do so .
So , what do they gain , are they such a spiteful petty people that they behave like a bully .
Is it any wonder that the western world views with horror the thought of a people like the iranians developing a nuclear weapon .The iraqis did the same thing under Sadam .
Is it a trait of the arab people , are they all just spiteful bullies .
Can the European peoples ever live in piece with such strange nations .

In order to understand why Iran did this you need to look at the politics inside Iran. Iran's government is controlled by hard-line Imams who do not have a whole lot of popular support. Corruption is rampant and the economy is shrinking. In order to remain in power the Iranian leadership need a military crisis. (This is similar to the reasons that Argentina invaded the Falklands.)

Attempts to provoke a crisis with the US have failed because 1) the US refused to take the bait and 2) concerns of how badly we would hurt them if we got upset.

So - in yet another parallel with the Falklands - Great Britain is getting picked on because the are prominent enough to make a good propaganda 'victory' - and they are seen as weak enough so as not to be able to mount an effective military response.

I have been hammering home the message that we are dealing with animals who have none of the Judeo-Christian scruples of love thy neighbor, help the poor, turn the other cheek and on and on. These people are basically savages (not the Iranians themselves who are mostly educated and live under the yoke of their religious fanatic rulers). We are at war with a group of animals who will torture, maim, kill while we go around in circles holding our heads in our hands when there is even suspicion that someone has been manhandled. Our press has a field day. Some day this same press will be part of the Muslim regime and then we'll see how they react. I was a democrat but I left the party several years ago because I am convinced that most Democrats are liberal beyond reality. They carry their bravado too far and if allowed to remain in power they will destroy America. We are dealing with Arabs who should fold their tents and steal away into the middle of the dessert where they can die. When will the Democrats acknowledge that the Arabs are scum?

First, Iranians are NOT Arabs (a few in the south are of mixed heritage). They are Aryans. The language they speak is NOT Arabic; it is Farsi. Most of the Iranians are Shiite Muslims and memorize the Qur'an in Arabic.

It is HIGHLY doubtful if Europeans or ANY non-Muslims in the universe can ever live in peace with Muslims on a long-term basis because Islam has an agenda to have every man, woman and child submit to Islam.

The Iranians may have captured the 15 British sailors to use in hostage exchange for the 5 Iranians that the US captured in Iraq.

OR

The 15 British sailors were captured before the UN voted to expand sanctions against Iran to cease enrichment of uranium. Ahmadi-nejad also cancelled his scheduled visit to the UN. So the incident may have been meant to divert attention from the UN vote.

OR

Iran is trying to provoke a conflict so that if they are victorious they can purge the Middle East of kafiroon (infidels), fitnah (disbelief in Allah) and taghut (evil). If they lose, those who died in the glorious jihad fee sybil Allah will have the honor of a shahid (martyr in jihad).

Am I the only one that realizes these zealots are essentially the Nazis of our times? You have a so-called repressed people in Iran, the moderates who live in fear of reprisals, so they cow tow to the evil leaders - who are bent on dominating international opinion in their favor, and even singling out the Jews as evil, and what is worse, imagine Hitler with Nukes.

So many people compare Bush to Hitler, which really burns me up, there is almost zero comparison, yet Ahmindedumass seems to almost be a reincarnation of the man - only Persian.

Iran needs a war with the West, that is what they are driving towards, and you can argue all day long that we need the oil, blah blah blah, but really, we have nothing to gain from a war with Iran and everything to lose. We will look like the badguys if we attack them, that is what they are trying to provoke us, because their fearless leader needs a holy war with the West to justify his existence and his repressive policies.

I am not a scholar on Iran, but my advice to all Americans is now might be a good time to start learning more about our enemy. For example, I didn't even know they weren't Arabic. I think alot of us here think that Muslim = Arabic and vice versa.

I keep coming back to one equation though, Iran + Nukes = Hitler + Nukes; this can't happen!

Iran is good at brinksmanship and public relations. Remember, we are talking about the same country who had an internation conference on the Holocaust just to prove that it didn't really happen. It drew attention all over the world. All they have to do is place a seed of doubt. Many on the left, all over the world, will see them as an "opposing voice" for the West and therefore lend Iran some credibility.

The capture of the Brits is to capitalize on that sense of "poor me". They have "opened their arms" to the international community. Offered to "broker a peace" in Iraq. Tried to reduce it's dependance on fossil fuels through nuclear energy.

And the Brits "invade" them.

See how it works?

They can gain a lot and it's all false. The very worst thing we can do, right now is attack them. They will play that up. The US and UK will assume that others will help them fight and will be left out to dry. Just watch.

As far as the British sailors being kidnapped, I have no idea what Iran is thinking. Their leader seems quite deluded. GPS places the boat in Iraqi waters, and England is not at war with Iran in any case. Per Geneva conventions, they never should have put the sailors on television. This appears to be a clear case of them pushing the limits.

All I know is this... England has had our back in the best of times, and the worst of times. They're the only nation we can truly count on to help us out. We have to stand with them against this bullying, or we might as well not stand at all.
