I am playing a game of online of hide 'n' seek. I have been given a couple of clues. My mate lives in a town approximately 40 miles from New York City and it has plenty of hotels. I live in Australia so my geography knowledge of New York State does not stretch beyond New York City and Albany.

Hum, is it in NJ or New York State? 40 miles from NYC are several places. Newark, NJ, Westchester/Dutchess counties in NY which are very suburban but posh, of course there are hotels all over the place, there is also parts of Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island that are about 40 minutes away. Also there are places near Greenwhich CT that are 40 mins also. This could be quite the scope you are talking about, you can access online maps of the area... mapquest.com

In New York: Huntington, Hempstead, Smithtown, Garden City, Hempstead, Hicksville, Syosset, Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, Manhasset, Great Neck, Woodmere, Mineola (County Seat of Nassau County), Dobbs Ferry, White Plains, Tarrytown, New Rochelle, Yonkers

Connecticut: Greenwich, Bridgeport

New Jersey: Jersey City, Newark, Edison

The Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, Long Island, has 800,000 residents, making it the most populated town in the USA. There are more folks in the Town of Hempstead than in the state of Montana. From Manhattan, the furthest part of the Town of Hempstead is about 40 miles away from the heart of Manhattan.

I think it may be Greenwich ct...especially if he owns the hotels :) It is definitely not jersey city nor Newark NJ...they are only 5 to 15 miles from the city.
