I am playing a game of online of hide 'n' seek. I have been given a couple of clues. My mate lives in a town approximately 40 miles from New York City and it has plenty of hotels. I live in Australia so my geography knowledge of New York State does not stretch beyond New York City and Albany.

Newark, NJ, Westchester/Dutchess counties in NY which are very suburban but posh, of course there are hotels all over the place, there is also parts of Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island that are about 40 minutes away.
