Hum, is it in NJ or New York State? 40 miles from NYC are several places. Newark, NJ, Westchester/Dutchess counties in NY which are very suburban but posh, of course there are hotels all over the place, there is also parts of Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island that are about 40 minutes away. Also there are places near Greenwhich CT that are 40 mins also. This could be quite the scope you are talking about, you can access online maps of the area... mapquest.com

The Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, Long Island, has 800,000 residents, making it the most populated town in the USA. There are more folks in the Town of Hempstead than in the state of Montana. From Manhattan, the furthest part of the Town of Hempstead is about 40 miles away from the heart of Manhattan.
