Need some advice!!! Pertaining to child custody?
Here is the situation in a nutshell...my brother has custody of his children right now because his ex-wife beat them with a belt and left many bruises all over their little bodies. The abuse was reported CPS took the children their father went down and picked them up and filed for custody. The mother was arrested but the DA dropped the charges and she got off with child parenting classes!!UNBELIEVEABLE!!! During this time she has had supervised visits.
She is now in the process of filing for sole custody. What can we do to make sure she doesn't get them back or at least not as the custodial parent. She also has a another child who was taken away and put into foster care. The father of that child could not get custody because he lived with her while the abuse had taken place and didn't report it. I believe she has the 3rd child back now.
We can't afford a lawyer nor can she. Help!!

even if you can't afford a lawyer, try looking for one that will do pro-bono work (free of charge). Contact local attorney's and tell them your situation and maybe one will have a heart and help you.. If not, ask their advice, they should give it free too. Legal aide should help if not.

I know this is none of my business, but how well do you know this girl/mother? Do you know if she has drinking/mental/drug problems, cause that could very well be her problem......The reason I ask is cuz as a child I grew up w/ a mother that was quite abusive, and later found out she is bi-polar and her drug abuse made it worse. There is no excuse to abuse a child, but if she has mental disorders/drug adiction it's not entirely her fault. I think you should all have her checked/looked at for drug/alcohol abuse or mental problems.

You have nothing to worry about here. Even though the charges were dropped for whatever reason, there is still a record of the investigation. This and her prior child will stop her from getting custody. Shes going to need an attorney to present her case, you wont. Her record will speak for her so you dont have to prove a thing except to be there to answer any questions the Judge may have for you. You are not on trial here so calm down, the law is on your side. Just dont agree or sign anything from her concerning this outside the court as the court wont be able to overturn it once its done. What about legal aid services? I know here if you cant afford a lawyer you can get legal aid cheaply.This is a tricky one..Perhaps you might look at contacting CPS and explain the situation for the sake of the kids.They might be able to help.

I'm afraid I'd sale the farm to keep my child away from this monster! - Or I'd have garage sales, cake bakes, car washes, you name it. I'd sell candy as a fund raiser. I'd do whatever it took to protect my children.
