I tried really hard for a long time to follow the bible, and I just can't believe anything in it. Since I don't believe in the Christian god, my becoming a Christian just to save my butt from the hellfire Christians preach to me about would just further condemn me, right? So what is wrong with following my heart before I get sent there?
This is a question for the religious.

In my opinion, following your heart is the best thing for anyone to do. I was born a Christian, and rejected it at the she of 3. When I was 11, I found what I think is right for me: Paganism. I don't believe ib Hell. However, I think you should do some searching. There is nothing wrong with being a Christian, there is nothing wrong with following another religion, or even no religion at all. It is a personal choice, and I sincerely hope that you are happy wherever your path takes you. May you be blessed as you work through this time of searching. Blessed be.

Some countries drive on the left-hand side of the road and others on the right-hand side of the road. If a person from a country that drove on the right-hand side of the road visited a country that drove on the left-hand side of the road, and firmly believed that driving on the right-hand side was the easiest, best and safest way to drive and therefore decided to follow their heart and still drive on the right-hand side of the road, would this be wrong?
Following your heart is not always the right thing to do, but following God is.
If you feel that you do not believe in the Christian God or the Bible, maybe those that are teaching about God and the Bible are not doing a very good job. Maybe all you need is a different teacher?
Living as a Christian requires faith as well as knowledge. The Bible also says that if you lack wisdom then you can ask God and he will give you the answers you need if you ask in faith. This means you can't just ask to know if the Bible is true out of curiosity, but would have to make a commitment to follow God, even when it is difficult, if He will confirm the truth.

There is nothing wrong with doing that. However you have to allow for those that do believe in God to believe that you are wrong and if they are convinced of it enough then they will tell you, that is not out of hatred or condemnation if they believe that if you don't believe like they do you will go to Hell then they just want to save you from that fate, it's just trying to be kind in their own way. I would do that too

Bekkie, Jesus said there was no other way to the Father in heaven than by Him. What is "wrong" with believing anything you choose is that it isn't true and if you die without Jesus as your savior, you will go to hell. That is a very serious consequence of dismissing the bible.

I say this not to threaten you, but just to be frank with you. Find a good bible teaching church and give it another effort. It's too important an answer to not investigate it further.

You don't believe in the Christian God? No problem.
One thing you must admit, that Jesus was once lived on earth and had done those things mentioned in The New Testament, because the contents of that book is lawfully valid (have eyewitnesses to testify, recorded clearly, and the record was maintained carefully).
Consider the truth being taught in the book, especially the moral values, we have to admit that The New Testament teaches the highest moral values ever taught in the whole world across hystory.
Then you can start learnig from the book about the Supernatural Jesus, whom loves you and wants you to gain salvation, from Him.
Be blessed!

My thinking of you is that you may been mislead in understanding of what God ask of us. Many false preachers can deliver the lie in which a person can come confuse. Lets put aside all denominations of churches, and accept the words of the New Testament. Jesus Christ tells us how we shall be with him. Just to believe in him, and by His power He can forgive your sins, not man.

Everything in the Bible I accept, but don't applied into my life. What's more important is the relationship with Christ. This is why the Holy Spirit will not allow you go astray...it is the knowing of God that saves you from hell. If you ever in doubt pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance.

God Bless

There is nothing wrong with that. I was faced with the exact same dilemma. I just could not believe much of what the Bible had to say and knew that some of it was absolutely not true. Also, the plethora of contradictions was more than I could handle. I was especially appalled by the Old Testament and it's blasphemous portrayal of God.

I now put all my trust in God and not some old contradictory book written by men with an obvious agenda. When you make the Bible infallible then you are putting your faith in man, not God.

Don't be a Christian just to save yourself from Hellfire. You have no Hell to fear if you do not understand and know God. Do not let other people condemn you to Hell they have no authority to do so. People who only do good things because they fear Hell are not really good people to begin with, they are just scared. Research multiple religions, pray, and never be judgmental towards other beliefs. God bless you and good luck.

How about this. I am a real life prophet of God and I have a word for you. Stop trying to follow the Bible, you can't. The flesh profits nothing. All you must do is belive God. Belive that God rasied Jesus from the dead, and accepted His sacrifice as a atoinment for our sins. Try not to improve the flesh or make it right and holy, God will put a new man within you when you belive Him. You don't even have to try. Just belive His Word. He will do the rest. Do it today.
