General of the Army Douglas MacArthur: December 18, 1944
General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower: December 20, 1944

Here is a list of 5 star Navy Admirals and Air Force Generals

The Navy's Five-Star Fleet Admirals:
Admiral William D. Leahy
Admiral Ernest J. King
Admiral Chester Nimitz
Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey

The Air Force Five-Star General:
General Henry "Hap" Arnold --Note: General Arnold actually was awarded this rank twice. In 1944, he received his fifth star while the air force was still part of the Army. It was then known as the U.S. Army Air Forces (AAF). After the AAF separated from the Army in 1947 and was renamed the United States Air Force, Arnold became the new service's only five-star General of theAir Force.

The highest rank in the United States Military in standard practice is a 4-star general. The rank of 5-star general does technically exist but is exceedingly rare. Others here have mentioned Gen. Omar Bradley as the most recent person to have held that rank, and I would defer to them on that but Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower I believe also had 5 stars in his position as Supreme Allied Commander during WWII.

U.S. law strictly limits the total number of general officers that may be on active duty at any time. This number is set at 302 for the Army, 279 for the Air Force, and 80 for the Marine Corps. Of these, no more than 50% may rank higher than Brigadier General. The percentage of generals ranking higher than Major General is capped at 15.7% for the Army and Air Force and 17.5% for the Marine Corps, and out of that total, no more than 25% may rank as a full General. This typically works out to about thirty full Generals on active duty at a time.

All promotions to general require presidential nomination and senate confirmation, as do subsequent promotions.

As a rule, there are no 5-star Generals except in wartime. That designation is called "General of the Army". I believe the last was Gen. Omar Bradley who served as Chairman of the joint Chiefs of Staff in the late 1940's-early 50's. He was designated 5-star during WWII.

There have been no officers appointed to the rank of General of the Army since Omar Bradley [in 1950] and, in the 21st century U.S. military, further appointments are highly unlikely, unless the United States were to become involved in a major war on the scale of World War II.

There is one rank high than 5 star. That is a 6 star. There have been only 2 to achieve the rank of General of the Armies, they are Washington and John J. Pershing!!

As of right now... 0. 5 star Generals (USAF and USAR) are only appointed if the United States were to become involved in a major war on the scale of World War II.

are you asking in the philippine there is none since the highest rank a general can receive in the philippines is only up to 4 star and only the chief of the staff can attain this status. a next in rank (AFP Chief of Staff wannabe) will receive this only once the current Chief of Staff retire, resign, die or dismissed from active military service.

But in the US there is only one 5 star general.

hope i have been of any assistance.
