FDA banned ephedra again in August 2006. Did they find any solid evidence or adverse cases against 10 mg dosages? It is quite strange that an ancient herb which is used for hundreds of years, one of a sudden becomes toxic even in 10mg dosages. Any comments?

It's been around for a long time, but the high-profile death of Steve Bechler (a 23-year old pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles) brought it to national attention in 2003, and Congress dropped their objection to the proposed FDA-ban. If not for Bechler's death, it might not have generated as much public interest. Ephedra was also implicated in Minnesota Vikings tackle Korey Stringer's death in 2001, which fueled the ban as well.

I don't know the dosage, but I'm passing on info from a psychiatrist friend of mine who told me he had to committ a young patient in psychosis solely induced from using ephedra. That was enough evidence for me, personally.
