I don't think it's any different than white people wanting to look tan. However, I don't like tanning OR skin bleaching .... Every skin color is beautiful! In a country that claims to celebrate diversity, why do so many people want to change their skintone so they can look like someone else? If all the pale people start tanning and the dark people start bleaching, will we all just end up the same shade of medium brown? That would be rather boring, don't you think? ;) I am super pale but I refuse to tan even though so many people tell me I should ... I want to help show the world you can be beautiful no matter what color you are -- God created me this color and I'm going to stay this way! :) Likewise, I would encourage you to embrace your beautiful dark skintone! Ultimately though, only you know whether you are truly insecure.... that's a question I can't answer for you!

it's used by people who want to lighten their complexion.there are some skin-lightening creams for this which contain hydroquinone.some people tone their skin which is like making your complexion a little lighter to match the complexion of other areas of the body Cos some people have lighter skin on their body but darker on their face.
in some cases though like Michael Jackson some people go all the way to drastically change their complexion from dark to light.
personally,i think bleaching is unnecessary and it also has side-effects like burns and people that bleach are more susceptible to skin cancer.

you reduce the amount of pigment (melanin) that your skin can make from the amino acid tyrosine by inhibiting the enzymes your body uses in the process. This is achieved by using primarily hydroquinone. This is a heavy metal (mercury) based compound, and while effective, I question the safety of it.
There are other compounds derived from mulberry leaves (kojic acid) that work the same way, but arent nearly as effective.
Bleaching means to make the skin lighter.
Be well

It means to lighten your complexion. Some use creams or products from the counter, and some take more drastic measures, like Michael Jackson.
