Why do you not want to be a Christian?

What are some major flaws in their "truth"?

Perhaps the best place to start would be that which makes Christianity essentially Christian -- the existence of Christ, and his crucifixion. The concept of another person dying for you might fill some people with joy, but I fail to see how telling someone that they are responsible for an innocent man being humiliated, tortured, and killed, is beneficial.

The subjects of "being saved" and "original sin" also tie in here. The doctrine of original sin basically states that we are all born imperfect -- that we are by nature dirty and sick creatures, who are incapable of being "good" in our natural state. Our best-laid plans will go to waste, and all our good intentions will turn to rot and dust. In essence, you are telling a child that they are born worthless. There is, however, a way for the child to 'redeem' herself and become something 'good' -- by accepting the additional guilt that Jesus was mutilated and killed because she is only human, because she (like all humans) has strengths and weaknesses, good points and bad points. But instead of accepting this -- that humans are naturally both good and bad -- it is emphasized that all humans are bad and will never amount to anything unless they have an innocent man suffer for them. This, too, I cannot see as anything but psychologically and emotionally damaging.

The very basis of Heaven and Hell themselves, of sinning and forgiveness, are horribly cruel things to impress upon a person. No matter how good a person you are, no matter how sincere or kind or generous, if you do not obey every command in the Bible or given by your church, you will burn in Hell forever. It is, bluntly, a leash to keep people in line. Because they are naturally wrong and dirty, they need constant guidance to keep them on the "straight and narrow" -- guidance provided by either a church or a book, and always at the sacrifice of individuality.

On the other hand, if you are a believer in Christ, then you can do no (permanent) wrong. You have no true personal accountability or responsibility. If you do something bad, the Devil made you do it! It is because you were under the influence of Satan, not because you were short-sighted or just plain wrong. You can blame this external force for all your wrong doings and keep your own conscience clean and clear -- you do not have to feel bad about what you did, nor have to make serious amends for it. All that is necessary is to ask God to forgive you (which God, of course, always will), and you are free of all wrong doings. What a wonderful way to destroy a healthy sense of accountability! What a marvelous way to warp a balanced moral fabric of right and wrong! While Ghandi goes to Hell for being a non-Christian saint, Jeffrey Dahmer can repent and go to Heaven to eat supper with his victim's parents. This is, in fact, the main driving force behind various types of religiously-inspired hatred and murder: if you are killing for God, or repent while you are killing, then you are really a "good" person, while the "bad" you killed are going to Hell. But it's okay, because they aren't Christian. We saw the results of this in the Inquisitions.

Hrm.... Everything? **** me, that's such a loaded question... Where to begin? I mean... Just about everything their books and "laws" say are flawed in some way, shape or form. Either it contradicts or it's completely hypocritic or... Just plain wrong. Any basic science book can prove over half the stories they believe wrong. Darwin's theory being one that disproves Adam and Eve, Pangea being another factor that disproves their idea behind why we speak different languages, have different cultures, etc. There's so much that is so inaccurate the only thing I can really say is that Christianity is unintelligent and logic cannot be applied to it.

The major flaw in our truth is that human nature thinks itself to be selfsufficent.

I disagree with an "us against them" mentality and a black and white view of the universe. I disagree with the concept of an All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Omnipresent God, who allows innocent people to suffer because "he has a plan" or "his ways are not our ways". I vehemently disagree with the idea of limiting myself and refuse to remain ignorant when the answer lies within my grasp. Also, I've never liked the idea of groveling before anyone, and find the idea of doing so before a God even more repugnant.

EDIT: Good answer Lokasenna!

Talking about Christianity, you will find several flaws.
But talking about the Gospel, you will not find any flaws, especially if you have lived to it!
Try it.

their fritzophrenic deity who is supposedly all loving, but condemns children born out of wedlock and the next seven generations of their descendants to hell for a "crime" they did not personally commit, who while on high decrees that wearing cotton/polyester undershorts and eating shellfish is enough to warrant eternal torture, but then as a man decides to save us all, except for the ones the christians don't like, then we refer back to leviticus for further instructions
