Casinos are designed by very clever people, experts in their field, to make you want to be there and play.
They make the games fun and interesting, they make the surroundings very comfortable, just the right temperature and humidity. No, they don't pump oxygen into the place that's just an urban legend, but they do rapidly change the air, as many as three times an hour to keep it fresh and pleasant. They also add fragrance into the air too.
On top of that they have special VIP areas, promotions, comps, and other attractions like top class restaurants, shops, and shows to draw people in.
Then there are the games. Carefully designed to be fun and enjoyable. While taking your money you can hear people all around you winning. The clank of slot machines paying out thousands of dollars. Huge displays promising jackpots of several hundred thousand to several million dollars.
All of these things give people the illusion that they are going to win money. Of course for most people they will lose most or all of what they take in to gamble with. But just like the lottery, there is that very slim chance of winning a small fortune, and people find that a very alluring concept. Last time I was in Vegas someone won $12,000,000 on a slot machine. Who wouldn't want that?

The simple answer is because you can gamble in a casino! The food, shows, entertainment, alcohol, are all fine but the number one reason anyone goes to a casino is to gamble. I have been in casinos that had clocks, windows, did not serve alcohol, had lousy food but people still went there to gamble. So, to summarize, casinos are addicting because you can gamble there!

Some are addicted b/c they are drawm in by the lights and promises to win crap but some people are compulsive gamblers. Also when the wheel is being spum or the cards are being dealt, etc the adrenaline is what really triggers the addiction. I have known people from gamblers anonymous so know a little about the disease. I hate that word. Why do they have to disease: why cab't they just say gambling addiction it sounds less crude.

People with what they call addictive personalities are addicted to different things. Mine is alcohol. Gambling is not my problem. I considered moving to Vegas after my divorce because of that. Gamblers can't stop. Even after they win, they'll put the money back in thinking they'll win more. Usually they lose. Every now & then they get lucky which is what "hooks" them. They think it will happen again.

Casino's are designed by psychologists to play on addictive aspects of our personalities; lighting, colors, sounds, etc. are all carefully planned; also - there are no clocks in casinos, and they pump in oxygen to keep you awake and alert.

Because once you win, you are always looking for the win. And once you lose, you start chasing that bad money with good money. Bad bad place.
