how does one start a Charity or a non profit organization?

I am a outdoorsman. I have education in business and Forestry/ Fish and wildlife. I am in Ontario and I will be either hiking or biking across Canada with my destination being Victoria. I would like to raise more awarness of how easy it can be to just life off the land. That society needs to simplify. Our laziness, greed,our desire to advance and our hunger for power and riches will ruin us as a whole. I want to show that we all can survive here on earth with nothing more than survival skills. Thats why Im going to travel without any money. Live off the land. Film everything and let people see how easy it is. I figure its a start. Who do I tell, how do I start.

It sounds like you need to start with something like a documentary and maybe a grant to make the documentary. This would be the way to get enough interest and backing to get to the point of turning it into more. Starting a non-profit actually costs money to get all the paperwork and all completed. It also takes quite a bit of time. I hope you can accomplish it because I think you're so right. Society is headed downhill right now and someone needs to give it a kick in the butt to get back on track and stop being so materialistic.
