I asked this question, and I didn't get an answer that really answered my question.

Why, in your opinion, would a sane, intelligent human being want to join a church that seems to believe what you think we believe? I mean, the church you all describe, NO one would ever want to join that church. Yet, there are millions in the LDS church, and more joining everyday. How can an evil church, like you say ours is, produce so many Good People?

So, it just seems like we have a contradiction.

Would you stop spewing your lies and venomous hatred and answer the question? So far, I've only gotten one that comes close to the answer.

Kerry, I think this then begs the question: anyone who believes in the Christian heaven knows that the only way to get to said heaven is thru CHRIST. Why would anyone believe in the Christian heaven, but NOT believe that the only way to get there is by accepting Jesus as your Saviour?

Also, we do not believe that a woman's salvation depends on any man but Jesus Christ. It is true that we believe that Christ will allow a righteous husband to call his righteous wife to resurrection. But, it's a privilege that Christ grants to a RIGHTEOUS husband. A righteous woman WILL BE resurrected, even if her husband is not righteous.

Our “rules and regulations” ARE supported by the Bible. Just not your interpretation of it.

We will be judged on our works. There are other places in the NT that speak of this, other than the verse quoted. The parable of the talents (Well done, thou good and faithful servant) and the parallel of “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren..”. And anyone who boasts of it already has their reward, as Jesus said of the Pharisees.

As far as adding scripture, you are right, in that MAN is not to add to any portion of scripture. But, GOD can add what He wants, WHEN He wants. The Book of Mormon is the word of GOD.

Alex, my "predetermined answer" is not to be attacked for my faith, nor is it to find out what other Mormons believe is the answer. I want to know from those who spread hatred and lies about us, why they think anyone with any brains would actually want to join a group that believes as THEY SAY we believe.

Mormon4Jesus: No one would. That may be why meatbot and Mr. Penguin have not answered your question. Too bad.

Divine lungfish:
Since you brought it up, you will notice in verse 21 it says "...even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity." So it was because of their iniquity that they recieved the cursing. It then says, "For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint;" That was their curse, that they became SO hard hearted that their hearts were like a flint. A flint is a very hard rock that can be shaped into whatever the user wants only through striking it at the precise place (a weak place) where the unwanted rock falls away. The "user" I speak of in this case is Satan, who used Laman, Lemuel and others in such a way that they actual tried to do a thing that is forbidden in practically any culture - kill their father and brother. But I digress. So that the Nephites, who were not hard hearted like unto a flint, could easily distinguish between those who were extremely hard hearted and those who where not, the Lord gave the Lamenites an outward symbol of their curse, which is often misunderstood even by Mormons today, "wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people(this is Nephi speaking) the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them." The words themselves did not need the further interpretation now needed back when Nephi first wrote them, because it was known to the Nephites what the curse was, and why the Lamenites recieved a "skin of blackness". There is precidence in the Lord giving an outward mark to show an internal curse in the Bible. A mark was given to Cain, on his forhead if I remember correctly, so that all could easily see who it was that had hardened his heart to such an extent that murder was introduced to the world, and not just any murder, but the murder of his own brother.

There are some wonderful answers on here - kudos to Radictis, divinity, socmum, and guitar..always wonderful answers. I did answer your other question...
I was listening to a talk yesterday from Robert Millet and he quoted something one of the apostles said in 1845 - that as far as the church is concerned, the closer to the Second Coming, there will be no neutrals (among non-members). People will either say "the mormons are great" or they will say the opposite. That is a prophecty being fulfilled... the more the church grows and grows, which we know it will until the gospel fills the whole earth, there will be more and more who are either for us or against us, no neutrals. He also said something very interesting: The nearer a person becomes to God, the greater the power of the Adversary will be manifest to thwart God’s purposes.
How true that is! That is why we need to constantly be feeding and nourishing our testimonies, so that satan will have no power of us - he only can if WE let him.
"Those who reject this glad message will never such happiness know..."

This question is generating more responses than I had expected. Kerry's response that works are not a requirement for salvation is correct in that the resurrection of all mankind is the salvation that is referenced in the Bible. We will all be resurrected for the eternities and that is salvation in the literal sense because of the Christ's atoning sacrifice.

I suppose one scripture that comes to mind detracts from Kerry's claim about works. My interpretation of it, however, stands firm as I read Matthew 16: 27:

"For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works."

How else should this scripture be interpreted other than the clear reading of it? Matthew has the verse among other related verses, but it can stand alone if necessary.

It's definitely a contradiction. By their fruits ye shall know them.

I know every question and accusation has an answer. I just remember that I don't have all the answers. Most of the time the accusation is false.

I am so thankful that I decided to change my life around and live the gospel. I'm so thankful that Heavenly Father sent His Son to atone for my sins. Nothing I can do will ever repay that. And that is exactly why I want to be the most like the Savior I can be. I'm so thankful for the members of the church who live up to the teachings of Christ so others can see our light and joy and come to know of it themselves.

I'll be leaving on a mission soon... please remember the missionaries all over the world, in your stakes and wards in your prayers every time you pray. Ask everyone else to do the same. Be as active as you can in participating with the missionaries in your ward. There is no greater work for the benefit of your personal and others personal salvation. Let's remember to be the best neighbors we can be. People need the peace and joy in their lives that comes from the truth.

Let's help them find it!
Hurrah for Israel!!

mormon_4_Jesus,
Most anti-mormons could care less what we have to say, they could care less about the truth. The moment they see the word Mormon, or Latter-day Saint they seem to go into a frenzy of absolute paranoia. A lot of them will refuse to listen to what we have to say, and instead hurl insults at us. It might be a sign of Lucifer at work. God bless you for trying =).

One thing is for sure, penguin and meatbot as well as others are actually enforcing my beliefs in the Church. The more I research the more I am learning of our history, and beliefs. The more they ask the stronger my faith becomes in our Church. I am glad that they do ask questions, I just wish they would do so in a more civil manner using more diplomacy.

=========
Sirena,

You are either not being honest, or completely ignorant of Latter-day Saints. I doubt that you honestly believe Mormons marry multiple people, but rather enjoy belittling people. At anyrate, who would possibly want more than one wife? I have one and she is more than enough, actually she is a handful, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to have more than one wife.

Divine Lungfish Tiktaalik,
I do not interpret it in a racial way. The way I see it is filthiness, such as not washing, smearing of blood on the body, just being all around dirty both spiritually and physically.

4Christ
Every time you say we worship a false Christ, you are saying that you yourself are worshiping a false Christ because we worship the same one. By your own beliefs you are bound for hell.. sorry.

The Bible does not reject works. Having works is important. We receive eternal life based on the grace of Christ, based on the love of Christ for us, and based on his atoning sacrifice. All that is essential and without it we could not obtain eternal life and salvation. However, a person has to show faith and works in order to receive the highest place in heaven one can go.
Read the entire Book of James for treatise on faith and works. James says faith is necessary to receive salvation.

Good people still go to hell. Jesus is the only truth, and the only way to find salvation. Mormonism is as much a cult, as any other that you can find anywhere else. It is a religion built on works, which the Bible openly rejects. Works for salvation is not acceptable, and Jesus said so. To say differently is to call Jesus, and God, a liar. No where in the Bible is there any teaching that even comes close to the idea that a woman's salvation depends on a man, other than Jesus Himself.
While Mormons do tend to be good people, they base this on rules and regulations that is simply not supported by the Bible. What appeals to many people, who don't know any better, or don't want to know better, is that Mormonism, like the JW's and many other such cults say that by good works, and following certain rules, you can earn your way to heaven, and the acceptance of God. Mankind just loves that. By works alone I can be saved. Yeah, I can do that, and it will give me bragging rights over others that do not do as well as I do. Yet there might be someone better than me, but let's not worry about that. That is common to man, and always has been. The problem is, that it won't work, and the Bible says so. So, who is telling the truth, the Bible, or Mormonism. Mormonism has added to the Bible, as well as to Revelations which John spoke a pretty powerful curse over those who try to add to it. So. I'd say off hand the Mormon's are in a lot of trouble.

There are intelligent, loving people of just about every religion (or lack of) ... but sadly, the majority of attention is focused on the members who don't fit either of the above qualifications.

For example, Islam produces alot of good, intelligent people. But for ALOT of people, especially Americans, Islam is equivalent with extremist terrorism.

Just like I'm a Satanist. There are plenty of intelligent, caring, good Satanists ... but the ones you hear about are the ones who dress in all black, wear inverted crosses, and spray paint "666" on the sidewalls of churches.

The list goes on and on. There's always going to be a negative stigma attached to any belief structure. If you're Mormon, you're a polygamist. If you're a Catholic, you're a child molester. If you're an atheist, you're generally immoral. But in reality, you don't have to answer to anyone but yourself and/or your God. Don't let people's negative opinions get ya down.
