One who believes that Jesus Christ (was both God and man) is thier personal savior- who lived and died and was raised again to fulfill the prophecies of old. A Christian believes that Christ willl return and create a new Heaven and Earth. A Christian is one who attempts to emulate Christ in this likeness (following his words and actions as a pillar upon how to live and act towards others).

A Christian according to the Bible is a person who has trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and, as a result of that trust has become "Born Again" into the family of God. A true Christian MUST believe the following: The Diety of Jesus Christ i.e. that He is GOD in the Flesh. This is NOT negotiable.---The BODILY Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, assecion into Heaven, and His bodily Return in the future.----A person is saved (being born again) by GRACE through FAITH ALONE. They are saved UNTO good works, NOT by any good works that they might or might not have done.------This is the MINIMUM a person MUST believe to be a Christian according to the Bible. A person can believe that they ARE a Christian, but if any of the above is rejected or denied, then they are NOT, no matter what they think or say. Final Note: Jesus said that there would be MANY (the greek word in the bible means "majority") who think they know Him, but will be rejected by Him and He will say, "Depart from Me, I NEVER knew you."----theBerean

A Christian is simply a follower of Christ, however....we all know that there are a myriad of brands that adhere to that label. Bottom line... it is a person that believes not only in the message of redemption, but receives Christ as their redeemer. True Christianity is "love" based, not fear based and it is not about following a set of rules either. Jesus himself said, "If you follow the first 2 commandments, you will follow everything else." Unfortunately, man through the ages has created quite a mixture of the message and truthfully tarnished something that is truly pure. It is not religion, but belief. Plain and simple belief.

A Christian is someone who commits to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and follows through on that commitment. Several other answers included the idea that a Christian emulates Christ, which is also a great answer. He is the only perfect example.

A christian is someone of any religion, any gender, race, nationality, etc., that believes that there is one God. A christian believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for him or her, so that they can go to heaven. They also believe that its not the religion (i.e. Baptist,Methodist, etc.) that saves you, but your personal, everyday relationship with God. Doing the right thing when you can, and praying about it when you don't know is also something a christian does. A christian puts God first, relies on him through the good and bad.

A Christian is one who has been born again (John 3:3, 7; 1 Peter 1:23) by the spirit of God; washed in His blood.

A person in other words who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord & Savior, and who strives to live righteously, as the Bible instructs.

A Christian is not by any means, perfect, but he is forgiven.

One who believes in Christianity's version of God - omniscient, omnipotent and benevolent.

Any more than that would be different degrees of how strong they are, moderate or fundamentalist, etc. (agnostic or gnostic).

A Christian who takes the Bible literally, a Christian who takes parts of the Bible literally and other parts symbolically, a Christian who takes the Bible wholly symbolically and even a Christian who doesn't live by the Bible and simply believe in a God with those three characteristics (mentioned above).

All are Christians - just with varying degrees. But Christians nonetheless.

Oh, and also Christians (are different from Jews in that they) believe Jesus to be their savior and God's son (and/or God himself, etc. (i.e., Jesus is their Lord)) and to be a true historical person.

Wow, the first two answers are hilarious. I don't think he was asking for the actual textbook definition. I think it was meant to be more of a philosophical question.

But, I think Scott's and Nicole's answers right below sums it up perfect. I agree with them totally. Short, to the point and no misunderstanding what it means to be a Christian.

From what I've gleaned from my Bible, I'd say a Christian is one who follows the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, taking him as one's Savior and that he was raised from the dead by God, the Father and creator of all.

Romans 10:9
"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

But that is just a Biblical definition of what is a Christian. Hope that helps.
