I have 2 male cats, my boyfriend, me, my daughter, and a pitbull. My female cat Kitty is extremely effectionate to EVERYONE but when we got our Pitbull she has been bullying her alot. My cat keeps on attacking and hissing at her and we have to keep them in different parts of the house so that she wont beat up our dog. Why is she so aggressive towards our dog yet so loving towards everyone else?

No my other cats get along with any other DOG just fine. Before our other pitbull had ran away at our dog sitters house all of them got along but our pitbull Capone was a male so maybe that is why they got along

My dog has been here for 5 months now... I am introducing my dog to Kitty the same way I did with my cats Sonny and Lui. I let Kitty sniff my dog through the door. Sometimes I let Kitty out while my dog is on the leash because my dog is very hyper and always wants to play but she just keeps on going over there and trying to attack her.... She is such a B*&$@!

Don't worry! In few months your pit bull will teach her a lesson. Kitty better chance her behavior or she turn into pit bull snack. lol..

What breed is the cat? A tortoise shell is very aggressive. You don't say how long they have been together. A cat's affection towards humans has nothing to do with their reaction to another animal be it dog or cat. Separating them is not going to solve the problem. They have to work it out between themselves. We have three cats and two dogs. They were introduced in various stages of their lives. All get along in harmony. We allowed them to work it out amongst themselves. There is still an occasional spat. When the Lab/Rottweiler mix gets tired of the tortoise shell licking between his toes, he barks her off in no uncertain terms!

Maybe it is the female - female thing. Your female cat didn't feel as threatened by your male dog. Would you say that your male pit was more laid back and wanted to play with kitty less than this new girl. I know that my pit thinks she is the queen B and although she gets along with cats, she makes it a game if they hiss at her. The cat hisses, she jumps back , but then goes back for more.

Your cat is trying to stake her claim as alpha housemate or just let her know what's up, but your puppy just isn't taking the clue. She's missing it b/c she is a female pit (they are less laid back than males, in my opinion).

With time, it should hopefully get better if they otherwise don't bother each other. For instance, if the cat just seems to attack the dog when the puppy is annoying her by trying to play, then they may be able to co-exist as long as they can have their own space. Of course, I would never leave them unsupervised.

maybe because its a DOG?!!

you might not have heard, but unless very well socialised, cats and dogs dont get along very well!! besides that, she is probably scared of the dog.

there is a chance she will get used to the dog, but if he is an older cat - probably not.

Not only does the cat have to get used to another new animal invading its space, but it has to get used to a DOG. ALSO, the animals have to re-establish their pecking order.
introduce the dog slowly over a few weeks, dont just let them run around the house together day and night - this might make things worse.
.
Make sure your cat has an area where she can escape to where she will feel safe and in his own space. a room with a slightly opened door (that the dog can NOT get into) will do fine.

By bringing a new family member into the picture, you may have encroached on kitties territory. She was all settled in and now she has a new member to deal with. She puts on a strong front to let the dog know who's in charge! Does the dog fight back? Is it a puppy or grown? With my cats and dogs, they had to learn to deal with each other. We gave guidance on appropriate behavior, but at some point the dog had to learn how to interact. He has been slapped a few times, but our cats dont hurt him, more like telling him to back off!

LOL...you know some cats are just like that. For some reason she has it out for your dog. She is probably just trying to flip the whole dog chasing cats thing. That or maybe at one time the dog did something to the cat that you all are unaware of and she just won't let the dog live it down. That happens too.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/tHhdO

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Well.... One, you have a female cat. Sorry but female cats are fiesty and a royal pain in the ****. I've never had an easy going female cat. The reason why she's being so cruel to your pit is because she's new so your cat has to show who's the Queen of the house and because she can. She's also larger than Kitty and the fact Kitty can bully her kind of makes her feel better, knowing she's the one who is the threat and not the Pit. I had a female cat who beat up our male cats and our dogs... We gave her to my grandparents (they didn't have any other pets and their cat had recently died) because she wasn't working in our household. Of course, she was also fairly mean to me and she was originally my husbands cat so... One of the females had to go. ;-) OHHHH! And I just noticed... You said your Pitbull is female? That's another big problem... Female cats don't do well with other females, feline, canine or human... New females introduced to a female cat will always be considered an enemy to the Queen. Oh and if you don't think your female cat considers herself Queen... She does. Remember who picks up who's poop in that situation and still try to tell me you're the boss. lol.

Older cat-young puppy. Simple as that, pupppy wants to paly and Kitty says "NO" in the best animal way--hissing and clawing. If your other dog was older when you got the cats (or vise versa) then they usually tend to get along fine after adjusting to each other. All of our older farm cats did this same thing when we got a new (young) dog.

the cat is obviously jealous of the pitbull...if the dog is new to the house then the cat might feel like the pitbull is invading her space...what you should do is try to make them spend a lil more time with each other...of course you have to be there...don't leave them alone or else they will kill each other...just take things s l o w l y...don't expect them to get along over night...you have to be patient...
