My friend (36 years old) got married three years ago. And she has this ring that is a 18k white gold band with a 0.5 carat princess cut diamond, which looks like this: http://www.diamonddoctor.com/diamond-ring/J8175_T.jpg

She picked the ring as a wedding ring because her husband didn't give her an engagement ring.

But anyways, that kind of ring could be a wedding ring? If you see the kind of ring on some woman's ring finger, do you think that that's a wedding ring or an engagement ring??? Or could it be an anniversary ring???

Traditionally an engagement ring has a diamond stone, relatively large and usually raised higher than the band. The wedding "ring" is actually a "wedding band." No one stone is more prominent in the wedding band. Looks like your friend's ring is an engagement ring. But if she wants it to be her wedding band, more power to her. It's her ring.

It does look like an engagement ring but if your friend wants to wear it as her wedding ring, why not? It does not look like an anniversary ring. A wedding ring is a symbol of their love and binds them together. It doesn't matter if it's a large diamond or a plain gold band. BTW it is a lovely ring.

Looks like an engagement ring to me, usually the wedding ring is a band of some description.

I guess whatever they are happy with is the main thing, and its only a ring, which is just a symbol of their love and marriage.

My sister didnt get an engagment ring, but choose a thick band with some diamonds in it, looks nice, and i think id prefer to go the same way next time.

Traditionally, that is an engagement ring.
But as she didn't get one, she can use that. There is no rules these days.
I would have done exactly the same as her. And then on my next birthday/christmas/anniversary I would get a ring that 'looked' like the wedding band to match.

If she wore only that ring, I'd assume it was an engagement ring and that she hasn't gotten married yet. I would not think it was a wedding ring. I wouldn't think it was an anniversary ring either. It's clearly an engagement ring.

It's an engagement ring, not a wedding ring or anniversary ring.

I think that societies vision of a wedding ring or an engagement ring is twisted. A wedding ring is a symbol of unity and it doesn't matter what it looks like. In fact my wedding ring is a dolphin. I love dolphins and my hubby knew this so that is why he choose it. Yes a lot of people think it is strange, but who care what it looks like.

Okay, usually wedding rings have two parts to them. There's the engagement ring and the wedding ring. That's two rings that fit together. And furthermore, I've never heard of an anniversary ring.

It's a symbol of their committment to each other. It doesn't matter what it looks like. Some people only wear their engagement ring or only their wedding band. It is totally up to them.

It doesn't matter what a wedding ring looks like, it's a symbol of the committment that the husband and wife have towards each other.
