Okay, my hair is oily most of the time. My mom's friend told me to only wash it every other day, so I started doing that. Since about August of last year I started to straighten my hair off and on.

Lately, when I get out of the shower, if I don't straighten my hair, it is horrible! I MEAN HORRIBLE! It is wavy, has LOTS of fly aways, and STILL looks oily. When I say wavy, I mean wavy in a few spots, curly in some others. POOFY! Even when I straighten my hair, I still have dry, oily, unmanagable hair!

What can I do to make my hair stay straight, smooth, soft, and shiny without damaging it? Any products? Help is greatly appreciated!

Hi hon,
Try a natural relaxer conditioner.

You can always at a touch of talcum powder to your hair to absorb the oiliness.
Shake a tiny bit in the roots, work it in, lean over and shake your hair, then brush your hair so you don't have to wash it every day and it won't look oily.

A model trickeroo for ya.

Even if you use shampoo and conditioner at the right moments, your hair is not going to magically be straight, smooth, soft, and shiny (sorry to say!). Shampoo and conditioner can only go so far, and are really just for cleaning your hair. When you see straight, soft, and shiny hair, chances are it's got a ton of styling and smoothing products in it, along with some kind of heat straightening.

Here are some things that I think might help you out:
Washing your hair - I have pretty long hair (almost down to my waist) and I wash it every day, sometimes twice a day if I get dirty somehow. I know people say that washing your hair every day will give you dandruff/a dry or itchy scalp, but I have neither. You need to look for a gentle shampoo. A lot of shampoos will say whether or not they're safe for everyday use. Try Dove or Aussie if you're going for drugstore brands. Don't scratch your scalp when you wash; just gently massage with your fingertips. Everyone's hair is different, so if you find that washing every day doesn't work, you can try putting powder on your head overnight. There are some commercial hair powder products (Bumble and Bumble) but I've heard that baby powder also works well. Powder absorbs the oil that your hair secretes overnight, and when you wake up in the morning you can just dust out whatever hasn't been absorbed.

Conditioner - I use conditioner two or three times a week but rub it on the ends (I don't massage it into my scalp, I remember vaguely reading somewhere that conditioner in your scalp will give you dandruffy problems).

Once your hair is clean, try a leave-in conditioning treatment. It won't make your hair oily and should tame flyaways for when your hair dries. Infusium 23's leave-in treatment is pretty good for that, I hardly get flyaways if I spray it in while my hair is drying and comb gently. Once your hair is dry, if you still have flyaways, try a straightening serum like Frizz-Ease (it gets frizzies very sleek). If it's really out of control, you can also try a hot-oil treatment (V06). Heat-styling too often will also make it frizzy, so trim your split ends as often as you can.

And before I forget...when I brush my hair, I never ever let the bristles scrape my scalp. It just seems like it would give you a lot of problems (flakes and such) if you were to abrasively attack your scalp.

I hope that mouthful helped! Like I said, I wash my hair every single day and get occasional trims, and I hardly get flyaways. It's a mix of the products you use and the way you treat your hair. Good luck!!!

the reason you have poofy, fly away hair is because it's actually losing the natural oils it needs to protect it.
Looking oily and being oily are two completely different things.
Use a straightening spray or balm when you straighten your hair otherwise the heat dries it out. Make sure the shampoo and conditioner you're using are relevant to your hair type, washing your hair every other day is a very good suggestion.

If you find products that work for you, stick with them! Switching can create more problems than it fixes!!

Softness is a problem most of us encounter. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to change it. It depends on the coarseness of the hair shaft. You can make your hair more managable though.

You also don't mention how old you are. The teen years kickstart all your hormones (as you already know) and these are constantly fluctuating. Your hormones are partly to blame for hair problems. Make sure your diet is healthy and drink lots of water.

It may sound strange but everything's connected!!

Try using Biolage Color Therapie shampoo (even if it's not colored it has extra things to protect and moisten your hair) and Redken All Soft conditoner. Try completely drying your hair first then straighten it. You don't have to dry it all fance just brush it while you're drying it to keep from getting tangles. Also use ceramic tools on your hair. (like flat irons) They don't damamge your hair the way the other ones do. My hair can be the same way. But when I do all these things it looks naturally straight when it's actaully wavy. :) Good luck.

Alot of people's hair goes throught changes, and this is normal. To manage it try using conditioning treatments, leaving them in for a 3 to 6 minutes. I recommend straightening your hair with a blow dryer instead of a flate iron. Also when straightening your hair make sure that you use a straightening creme. I use MATRIX sleek look, it's the best!

Maybe try patting some baby powder into it to absorb some of the oil. Also, have you tried salon products like Paul Mitchell or Aveda? Maybe ask a hair stylist which products would be best for your hair. Good luck.

try changing your shampoo. alot of times over the counter shampoos have to much wax in them and make your hair greasy. get a solan shampoo like biolage. if that doesn't work then put 1tsp of baking soda in with your shampoo once a week. hope this helps you!
