It is impressive. However, according to some analysts, the computerized fire control system and the laser range finder are not as capable as the Western counterparts.

The video doesn't tell us how effective is the TShU-1-7 Shtora-1 optronic counter measures system which is designed to disrupt the laser target designation and rangefinders of incoming ATGM. I'm curious to know how the Shtora stands up to field tests.

The T-90 is not exactly a "new" tank (1996) but it is the newest Russian tank, replacing (or at least adding to) the T-72.

While this tank is good at what it does, it is not the superior tank in the world.

The M1A2 is the best tank in the world. Germany has the Leopard 2 which is also better than the T-90.

Just my 2 cents worth of info. I'm no tank expert but I do know enough to know which one I would be on in a fight.

The American M1A2 Abrams will remain a superior tank to the Russian T-90. First of all, this new Russian tank is simply a measure to catch up to the standards of our already established main battle tank. The video footage of the tanks capabilities look very exciting, but the tank is only utilizing technological aspects which have been in effect in the Abrams tank for well over a decade. For example, the targeting system which allows the tank to accurately engaged a target while on the move was one of the key features which revolutionized the Abrams tank when it was first introduced.

I think the major aspect of this new Russian tank which will keep it inferior to the Abrams tank is its automatic loading system. This system results in a consistent time delay in which rounds can be loaded and fired. As made evident in the first Gulf War, one of the major advances of the Abrams tank over the Russian tanks used by the Iraqis was that the manual loading system utilized by Abrams tank crews allow the tank to be loaded and fired at a rate in excess of three times that of the Russian tanks. In the heat of battle, I would rather be in a tank in which the loader is a trained individual who can have me ready to fire in under three seconds than having to literally count the predetermined seconds it takes for the automatic system to load.

In the end, this tank's effectiveness is going to have to be proven in actual combat situations. Everything always looks good and all components always work perfectly in training scenarios. I seriously doubt if there will be any ramp jumping during actual combat operations.

First of all that video includes clips of the T72, T80 and T90.

Nothing on that video implies that the T90 is at all superior to the American Abrams, British Leopard or German Challanger. The Abrams is the benchmark and so far everything has fallen short. T90 has a much slower rate of fire than the Abrams (manual load is faster), is slower (diesel vs turbine), and has inferior night sights (IR vs FLIR).

The T90 is a huge step for the russian tanks, but only catches up with the Abrams of 1985, and pales to the modern M1.

It is nothing more than an upgraded T80. That means that this tank is the rough equivalent to the US M60A3 Main Battle Tank - which we retired from service over a decade ago.

Dude the M1A2 Abrams can kick that thing's butt! Footage looks pretty dated, not to mention the T-90 is a replacement /successor to the T-80. I'm not scared.

Nothing spectacular and dated. All is not as it is appears and all are not T 90's

Seen similar footage on History Channel featuring Abrams Leopard Le Clerc Challenger etc

Whoa....low profile, high speed and maneuvarability, ample firepower, slanted surfaces and semi-aquatic navigation. DAMN!

Since World War II, the Russians have made some pretty fine armor. Tip your cap.....this one's pretty rugged and mean.

Thats all well and good that it looks good, but it is really just an upgraded T-80, the Abrams would slaughter it in combat.

Interesting, but dated.

Tank killers come in many shapes and sizes.

The era of tank warfare has long since passed.
