I simply asked, per a ethics paper at my Christian College, a hypothetical question about God in another post of mine, here, and my Christian brothers and sisters went NUTS!

All they said was, "I cannot even think this" or "That's like asking me to not believe in water, etc..."

Well, DUH!

What's wrong with asking someone to imagine what life would be like if suddenly the water disappeared?

Now, THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION- THAT IS AN EXAMPLE THE QUESTION IS BELOW:

Nothing.... All it takes is for you to think:
"OK, no water... The plants would all die, the world would smell like rotting fish, people would die..."

But when it came to my question:
"How would we Christians respond to this?"

My Christian friends refused to even think about it or answer it!! What's going on, here???

THE QUESTION WAS HERE:

I didn't click the link but...
I'm Christian and I don't see a problem with the question. I don't necessarily see it as a religious question though. Unless you took the God doesn't give us more than we can handle idea, lol.
As a person, not necessarily as a Christian, but a typical person then I would of course look for alternative means to fix the problem.
God helps those who help themselves.

Wow. You weren't kidding. I hit your link to the original question...and the answers befuddled me. It's a simple question, but they made it seem complicated, blasphemous, and questioned your intentions and the intentions of your ethics class.

MY answer would've been something like:
Life on earth would suddenly go chaotic. All living creatures would be desperately searching for more water. All social systems would crumble, and all creatures would go into a self-preservation mode. However, I do not see that happening. Even if all the fresh water was consumed, we would find a way to adapt and purify salt water in mass quantities.

Hope I helped ya. Sorry to hear that our Christian brothers and sisters took up arms over a simple hypothetical question. I see nothing wrong with hypotheticals...they help expand your mind and allow you to think outside the box. God bless!

I don't see the problem. I can imagine a world with God, even though I'm Atheist. It's not like I hate the idea of him, I hate what people do in his name when they have no way to know he's real. That was to the guy way up there ^.
Anyways, those people are weird. They shouldn't be so dependent on their religion that they can't imagine life without it. Usually when someone is that attached to something, it's healthy to distance themselves a bit. Even if it's religion.

I went back and looked at the question, and I understand why they answered the way they did. How could you find proof that someone who was cured of alcoholism, and never touched it again the rest of his life of over 20 years although it was in the refrigerator at times, actually did drink beer when he didn't (is that question too long?) How could you find proof that someone who lived 35 years after being healed of cancer, didn't really live but died 35 years ago?
If you could imagine a world without water, it would be a world without life.

Well, to take it seriously, it's kind of obvious that we'd probably have to take a step back to philosophy and start over. No harm in the question, you could ask the same thing about atheism. But I suppose they'd get mad at your question too.

You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. They love "the book" until it doesn't agree with them. I know!
